FDA Middle East and North Africa Post

FDA’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Post mission is to strengthen the safety, quality, and effectiveness of food and medical products produced in country for export to the United States. FDA’s bilateral and multilateral interactions with the countries of MENA are focused on building relations with the regional regulators and industry, information gathering, and collaboration with key stakeholders to strengthen the regulatory capacity, preventive controls, and industry production practices in country to enhance compliance with standards to help ensure that products exported from these countries meet FDA’s standards for import into the U.S. as well as to improve information exchanges for better decision-making by FDA.

FDA’s Initiatives and activities in the region and sharing of scientific and technical expertise with its foreign regulatory counterparts enhance a country’s ability to produce safe and effective foods and medical products, enhance its regulatory infrastructure, safeguard the health of its citizens, and contribute to global health. Interactions include FDA’s product centers, and regulatory, industry, and academic groups, and other United States Government agencies in the region. The MENA Post was established in 2008, but was stationed in Amman, Jordan, in December 2011.
