The OSHA and Altec Industries, Inc. Alliance focuses on providing information, guidance and access to training resources to help protect employees' health and safety, including non-English or limited-English speakers. In particular, the Alliance addresses the safe operation of cranes, digger derricks and insulated and non-insulated aerial devices including tree care devices as well as industry hazards such as falls and electrocutions.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

Through the Alliance, Altec conducted "Safe Operation of Insulated Aerial Devices Training" for OSHA Regional and Area Office staff and other safety and health professionals. Over 100 attendees have participated in the seminar, which was held on:
- October 12, 2006 in Boise, Idaho.
- October 18, 2006 in Portland, Oregon.
- October 19, 2006 in Portland, Oregon.
- November 14, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia.

American Biological Safety Association

Through the OSHA and American Biological Safety Association (ABSA) Alliance, the organizations are using their collective expertise both to enhance workplace health and safety and to assist employers, including small businesses, in developing a preventive focus for biological safety issues facing the American workplace.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On October 18-21, 2009, representatives from OSHA Region IV staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth during 52nd Annual Biological Safety Annual Conference in Miami, Florida.
Through the Alliance, in July 2008, ABSA developed the fact sheets, “Select Agent Diseases” and “Zoonotice Diseases,” which are linked to from the OSHA and ABSA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
On June 25, 2008, Dionne Williams, then-Industrial Hygienist, Office of Health Enforcement, Directorate of Environmental Programs (DEP), USDOL-OSHA, staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth during the Summer Seminar Series and Review Course in Baltimore, Maryland.
Through the Alliance in March 2008, ABSA developed the fact sheets, "Principles of Biosafety" and "Biosafety Levels," which are linked to from the ABSA and OSHA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
On October 7, 2007, Melody Sands, then-Director, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; Dionne Williams, then-Team Leader, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; and Karen Heckmann, Industrial Hygienist, Office of Training and Education, Directorate of Training and Education (DTE), USDOL-OSHA, presented the professional development course, "Introduction to OSHA for Biosafety Professionals" at the 50th Annual Biological Safety Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Dionne Williams also presented "OSHA Protection: Past, Present, and Future OSHA Efforts Concerning Workers" and staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.
On October 15, 2006, Melody Sands, then-Director, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; Dionne Williams, then-Team Leader, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; and Karen Heckmann, Industrial Hygienist, Office of Training and Education, DTE, USDOL-OSHA, presented the professional development course, "Introduction to OSHA for Biosafety Professionals," at the 49th Annual Biological Safety Conference in Boston, Massachusetts. On October 2-6, 2006, Dionne Williams, then-Team Leader, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA, and John Keene, Diane Fleming and Barbara Johnson, ABSA, presented the OSHA training course, "Essentials of Biosafety: Assessment and Strategies," to OSHA Compliance Safety and Health Officers in Bethesda, Maryland.
On October 23, 2005, Melody Sands, then-Director, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; Dionne Williams, then-Industrial Hygienist, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA; and Karen Heckmann, Industrial Hygienist, Office of Training and Education, DTE, USDOL-OSHA, presented the professional development course, "Introduction to OSHA for Biosafety Professionals," at the 48th Annual Biological Safety Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Dionne Williams also staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth at the event.
Through the Alliance, in October 2005, ABSA developed a fact sheet, "Rescue and Recovery: Hygiene Practices for Workers," which is linked to from the OSHA and ABSA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
On October 17, 2004, Melody Sands, then-Director, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA, presented "TB, Bloodborne Pathogens and More" at the 47th Annual Biological Safety Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Dionne Williams, then-Industrial Hygienist, Office of Health Enforcement, DEP, USDOL-OSHA, and John Beck, Region VI, Austin, Texas, Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.
On October 13, 2003, Bob Curtis, then-Division Director, Salt Lake Technical Center, USDOL-OSHA, and David Ippolito, then-Director, Office of Science and Technological Assessment, Directorate of Science, Technology and Medicine, USDOL-OSHA, and representatives of the U.S. Postal Service presented "Improving Responses To Bioterrorism: Lessons Learned From The Anthrax Attacks" at the 46th Annual Biological Safety Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On June 14-18, 2004, ABSA had an exhibit at the 2004 OSHA Compliance Assistance Training Sessions in Falls Church, Virginia.
On June 12, 2003, Debra Hunt, Assistant Professor/Chemistry, Director, Biological Safety Division, Office of Occupational and Environmental Safety, Department of Community and Family Medicine, Duke University, representing ABSA, presented "The Elements of a Biosafety Program" at the 2nd Annual OSHA Compliance Assistance Conference in Vienna, Virginia.
Through the Alliance, in 2003 ABSA published "OSHA Infectious Dose White Paper" in Applied Biosafety, the Journal of the American Biological Safety Association, Volume 8, Number 4.
ASBA representatives serve on the editorial boards for the following Safety and Health Topics pages on the OSHA Web site: Avian Flu, Biological Agents, Bloodborne Pathogens and Needlestick Prevention, Botulism, Foodborne Disease, Hantavirus, Hazardous Waste, Indoor Air Quality, Ionizing Radiation, Legionnaires' Disease, Mold and Fungi, Plague, Ricin, Smallpox, Tularemia, and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers.

Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:

On October 19-25, 2009, ABSA and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported the 2009 Drug-Free Work Week. Sponsored annually by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Working Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace Program, the Week focused on educating employers, workers, and the public about the importance of being drug-free as an essential component of a safe and healthful workplace.
On May 3-9, 2009, the ABSA and 57 other Alliance Program participants supported 2009 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week. Sponsored annually by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), an Alliance Program participant, and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), the Week focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace. The theme for 2009 NAOSH Week was "Safety Means Always Coming Home."
On October 20-26, 2008, ABSA and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported the 2008 Drug-Free Work Week. American Foundry Society

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the American Foundry Society (AFS) encourage AFS members and others, including small businesses in the metal casting industry, to increase worker access to safety and health information and training resources on workplace issues, including personal protective equipment (PPE), heat stress and reducing and preventing exposure to silica.

To meet the training and education goals of the Alliance:

On November 12-16, 2007, John Grzywacz, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Office of Safety and Health Training, Directorate of Training and Education (DTE), USDOL-OSHA, and Terry Krug, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Office of Safety and Health Training, DTE, USDOL-OSHA, presented an "OSHA and AFS Compliance Training Course," at AFS Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

On April 7-10, 2009, representatives from OSHA Region IX and Nevada OSHA staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth during 113th Metalcasting Congress in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Through the OSHA and AFS Alliance, in December 2008, AFS developed, "White Paper: Establishing a Foundry Heat Stress Management Program," which is linked to from the OSHA and AFS Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
On August 24-27, 2008, Joe Czaicki, Industrial Hygienist, Region VII, St. Louis, Missouri Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the 20th AFS Environmental Health and Safety Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
On July 15-17, 2008 Luis Garcia, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Region V, Chicago North, Illinois Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, attended the AFS "Introduction to Metalcasting Course" in Schaumburg, Illinois.
On May 17-20, 2008, Marilyn Velez and Anita Fountain, Compliance Assistance Specialists, and Patricia Morris, Compliance Safety and Health Officer, Region IV, Atlanta-West, Georgia Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the Cast Expo 2008 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

On April 11, 2008, then-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA, presented “OSHA Enforcement and New PPE Rule” at the AFS Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. Following the presentation, Mr. Foulke signed the OSHA and AFS Alliance renewal agreement. In addition, Richard Fairfax, then-Director, Directorate of Enforcement Programs, USDOL-OSHA; and Jim Maddux, then-Acting Director, Office of Biological Hazards, Directorate of Standards and Guidance, USDOL-OSHA, made presentations during a panel discussion.
Through the Alliance, in April 2008, AFS developed the manual, "Control of Silica Exposure in Foundries," and distributed printed copies to their members and to OSHA Region II, III, V, and VII Offices. The manual is linked to from the OSHA and AFS Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
Through the Alliance, in September 2007, AFS provided a copy of the video, "The Process of Metalcasting" to OSHA's DTE. The video was incorporated into the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) 1250 course "Introduction to Health Standards for Industrial Hygienists."
On March 18, 2008, Sandy Bennett, Manager of Training, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the Safety in the Foundry XX Safety Seminar in Nashville, Tennessee.
On March 11, 2008, John McFee, Regional Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Region III, USDOL-OSHA, presented "OSHA Update…New PPE Payment Rule, Silica, Citations Found in Foundries" and staffed an OSHA and AFS Alliance Program exhibit booth at the AFS Keystone Chapter Meeting in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
On October 8, 2007, Jan Cothron, Industrial Hygiene, Manager, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development participated on a workshop panel "AFS/OSHA Alliance Update…Top Compliance Issues Found in Foundries" and staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the 19th Environmental, Health and Safety Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
On October 8, 2007, Scott Frosch, Senior Industrial Hygienist, Indiana Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration discussed issues that impact the foundry industry and staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the AFS Central Indiana Chapter Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
On May 15-18, 2007, Jeffrey C. Rucker, Safety and Health Manager, Region VI, Dallas, Texas Regional Office, USDOL-OSHA, and James J. Shelton, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Houston North, Texas Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth during the 111th Metalcasting Congress in Houston, Texas.
On February 1, 2007, AFS representatives participated in the Alliance Program Small Business Roundtable in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Alliance Program participants reviewed promotional materials and tools that OSHA designed in response to the recommendations made during the Roundtable meeting on September 8, 2006.
On January 16, 2007, Nancy Newman, then-Assistant Area Director, Region V, Cleveland, Ohio Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, and Fred Kohloff, Director, Environment, Safety and Health, AFS; Jack Schuldt, 10-Q Committee, AFS, discussed OSHA's Local Emphasis Program on Primary Metals and other issues impacting the foundry industry in Ohio at the Ohio Cast Metal Association Meeting in Columbus, Ohio.
On October 26, 2006, AFS representatives participated in the OSHA Alliance Program Hazard Communication Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) Workgroup in Washington, D.C. Workgroup participants identified compliance assistance tools and products to educate the public, particularly small businesses, about the GHS. They also provided recommendations on the target audiences, subjects and formats of and methods for distributing the information.
On September 17-20, 2006, representatives from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the 18th AFS Environmental Health and Safety Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
On April 28, 2006, then-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA, signed the OSHA and AFS Alliance renewal agreement and updated attendees on the Alliance Program and activities of the OSHA and AFS Alliance at the AFS 2006 Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
On April 18-21, 2006, OSHA representatives staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth during the 110th Metalcasting Congress in Columbus, Ohio.
On February 16, 2006, Jan Cothron, Industrial Hygiene Manager, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, and Sandy Bennett, Manager of Training, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, presented "OSHA's Silica Standard and Reducing/Preventing Exposure to Silica" at the AFS Southeast Regional Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
On November 14-18, 2005, John Grzywacz and Terry Krug, Instructors,OTI, USDOL-OSHA, presented the OSHA and AFS Compliance Training Course at the AFS Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Through the Alliance, in November 2005, AFS developed the "Guide for Selection and Use of Personal Protective Equipment and Special Clothing for Foundry Operations" module of its Safety and Health manual, which is linked to from the OSHA and AFS Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
On September 23, 2005, Kim Brightwell, Health Compliance Officer, Occupational Safety and Health Division, North Carolina Department of Labor, presented "OSHA's Silica Standard and Reducing/Preventing Exposure to Silica" at the AFS Piedmont Chapter Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
On August 22, 2005, Lee Anne Jillings, then-Director, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances (OOSA), Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs (DCSP), USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on the Alliance Program and the activities of the OSHA and AFS Alliance at the 17th AFS Environmental Health and Safety Conference in Dearborn, Michigan.
On August 1, 2005, AFS representatives participated in the OSHA Alliance Program Hazard Communication Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals Workgroup meeting in Washington, D.C. The workgroup identified a number of compliance assistance tools that it could develop to support OSHA's plans to adopt the GHS as part of its Hazard Communication Standard.
On April 16-19, 2005, representatives from OSHA staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the CastExpo '05 in St. Louis, Missouri.
On March 29-April 1, 2005, Frank Perrino and Anthony Towey, Instructors, OTI, USDOL-OSHA, and Jack Schuldt, 10-Q Safety and Health Committee, AFS, provided the OTI Foundry Training Course to OSHA staff members at the Ford Motor Company's Casting Plant in Cleveland, Ohio.
On March 16, 2005, Jess McCluer, then-Program Analyst, OOSA, DCSP, USDOL-OSHA, gave an update on the Alliance Program and the activities of the AFS and OSHA Alliance at Safety in the Foundry XVII in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition, John Grzywacz, Instructor, OTI, USDOL-OSHA, presented "Fundamental Hazards of Electricity."
On March 11, 2005, then-Acting Assistant Secretary Jonathan L. Snare, USDOL-OSHA, gave an update on the Alliance Program and the activities of the AFS Alliance at the AFS 2005 Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
On February 17, 2005, Ron Smay, Industrial Hygienist, Region III, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, presented "OSHA's Silica Standard and Reducing/Preventing Exposure to Silica" at the AFS Chesapeake, Keystone, and Metropolitan Chapters and the Conestoga Foundry Association and Pennsylvania Foundry Association meeting in York, Pennsylvania.
On August 16, 2004, Ken Gilbert, Area Director, Region V, Indianapolis, Indiana Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation on the Alliance Program and OSHA's enforcement activities and staffed an OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth at the 16th AFS Environmental Health and Safety Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
AFS members serve on the editorial boards for the following Safety and Health Topics Pages on the OSHA Web site: Powered Industrial Trucks, Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout), Heat Stress, Lead, Silica, Crystalline, and Ventilation.

To meet the goal of national dialogue of the Alliance:

Through the Alliance, in September 2008, Implementation Team members developed the case study, "Ventilation Upgrade Reduces Silica Exposure” at Grede Foundries, Inc. Facility in Reedsburg, Wisconsin." As a result of the control measures developed, silica exposures were reduced by more than 50 percent to levels well below the OSHA permissible exposure limit for silica. The case study is posted on the OSHA and AFS Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
Through the Alliance, in June 2009, Implementation Team members developed the case study, "Silica Dust Control Improvement: Grinding of Iron Castings with Portable Tools at Kennedy Valve Foundry in Elmira, New York." Kennedy Valve Foundry implemented measures to reduce workers' exposure to silica at its plant in Elmira, New York. The case study is posted on the OSHA and AFS Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.

American Heart Association

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the American Heart Association (AHA) work together to share best practices and technical knowledge for reducing death and disability from heart disease and stroke in the workplace.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On September 27, 2007, Alex Barbieri, Senior Case Manager, AHA gave a presentation on AHA's Start Program, a wellness program for the workplace, at the Association of Occupational Health Professionals, another Alliance Program participant, Congress of Presidents in Savannah, Georgia.
On June 6, 2007, AHA participated in the Department of Labor Safety Day in Washington D.C. AHA representatives staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth and provided safety and health information.
On May 7, 2007, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA, spoke to the OSHA and Alliance Program participants and other safety and health professionals during the 2007 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week kick-off event at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Sponsored annually by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), an Alliance Program participant, and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Week focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace. AHA, along with a number of other Alliance Program participants, supported the Week.
On October 4-7, 2006, AHA and California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (better known as CAL OSHA) representatives shared an Alliance Program exhibit booth at the Association of Occupational Health Professionals, another Alliance Program participant, Congress of Presidents in Sacramento, California.
On June 22-25, 2006, Earl Hicks, Program Analyst, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA; Tony Gilson, Industrial Hygienist, Region V, Fairview Heights, Illinois District Office, USDOL-OSHA; Pat Stark, Safety and Health Compliance Specialist, Florida On-site Consultation Program; William Tomlin, Safety and Health Compliance Specialist, Florida On-site Consultation Program and AHA representatives, John Hayes and Toni Reel staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth at the CCPRF/ECCU 2006 International Educational Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
On May 6, 2006, Don Wright, M.D., then Director, Office of Occupational Medicine, Directorate of Science, Technology and Medicine, USDOL-OSHA and AHA representatives, William W. Hammill, M.D. and Michael R. Sayre, M.D. presented "New Guidelines for First Aid, CPR and AEDs and OSHA Regulations" at the American Occupational Health Conference in Los Angeles, California.

On September 30-October 3, 2004, the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Update (ECCU) was held in New Orleans, Louisiana. On September 29, 2004, Paula O. Dorinda Folse, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Area Office, USDOL-OSHA and Sandra Khan, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.
On July 13-15, 2004, AHA representatives provided the AHA CPR/AED Heartsaver Train-the-Trainer Course to OSHA staff members at the OSHA Training Institute in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
On June 14-18, 2004, the AHA had an exhibit at the 2004 OSHA Compliance Assistance Training Sessions in Falls Church, Virginia.

American Industrial Hygiene Association

The OSHA and American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Alliance focuses on reducing and preventing employee exposure to ergonomic hazards in the workplace by providing AIHA members and others with information and guidance for developing, implementing, and/or improving ergonomic programs.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On August 1, 2006, AIHA published a new safety alert: Deadly Hydrogen Sulfide and Shipyard Sewage that is posted on the AIHA Web site and linked to from the OSHA and AIHA Web page on the OSHA Web site. It was developed through the OSHA and AIHA Alliance and in conjunction with OSHA's maritime-industry related Alliances with the American Shipbuilding Association, the Shipbuilders Council of America, and the National Shipbuilding Research Program.
On May 13-18, 2006, AIHA's AIHce 2006 was held in Chicago, Illinois. On May 17, 2006, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke Jr., USDOL-OSHA presented "Reaching New Heights: Where OSHA is Heading in 2006 and Beyond." In addition, 19 speeches and workshops were presented by OSHA speakers and Alliance Program participants. OSHA representatives also staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.

On May 8-13, 2004 AIHA's AIHce 2004 was held in Atlanta, Georgia. On May 12, 2004 former-Assistant Secretary John Henshaw, USDOL-OSHA participated in "Question and Answer Session: Ask John Henshaw." In addition, OSHA representatives gave presentations and served on several panels that provided updates on OSHA. OSHA representatives staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.
On June 9-13, 2003, at the 2nd Annual OSHA Compliance Assistance Conference in Vienna, Virginia, AIHA representatives staffed an AIHA exhibit booth.
On May 12-14, 2003, AIHA's AIHce 2003 was held in Dallas, Texas. Former-Assistant Secretary John Henshaw, USDOL-OSHA presented "Navigating Unchartered Territory" outlining OSHA's 2003-2008 Strategic Management Plan goals. On May 14, 2003, five OSHA staff members and AIHA representatives participated in the Roundtable Discussion, "Expanding OSHA's Impact: Outreach and Assistance."
On February 1, 2003, Paula White, Director, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA presented "The OSHA-AIHA Alliance: Meeting the Goals Together" reviewing the Alliance's goals and early successes to AIHA's Technical Committee.
Through the Alliance, AIHA is sharing its Chapter Listings with OSHA.
Three OSHA staffers are participating as ad hoc members on AIHA's Ergonomics Committee to facilitate communication between the two organizations and to address and jointly resolve any issues that arise.
AIHA representatives helped develop and serve on the editorial board of the "Making the Business Case for Safety and Health" Safety and Health Topics page on the OSHA Web site.

On May 1, 2006, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA spoke to OSHA and Alliance Program participants and other safety and health professionals during the 2006 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week Kick-Off event at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Mary Ann Latko, Director, Science and Technical Initiatives, represented AIHA at the event. NAOSH Week, sponsored annually by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace. AIHA along with a number of other Alliance Program participants supported the Week.
On October 22-25, 2005, AIHA held its Professional Conference in Industrial Hygiene in Denver, Colorado. Several OSHA speakers participated.
On February 15, 2005, AIHA participated in the Alliance Program's Hazard Communication Roundtable in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Alliance Program participants discussed hazard communication compliance assistance projects and activities they could work on together. AIHA representatives also participate in the Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals Workgroup.

American Pipeline Contractors Association

Through the OSHA and American Pipeline Contractors Association (APCA) Alliance, the organizations work together to provide the association's members and others in the pipeline construction industry, including small businesses and non-English and limited English speaking employees, with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. The Alliance particularly addresses reducing and preventing exposure to equipment operation (e.g., bulldozer, excavator and sideboom), trenching and excavation, and hydrostatic testing hazards.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On March 9, 2007, C. Bryan Little, former-Deputy Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA gave an update on the OSHA Alliance Program and the goals of the OSHA and APCA Alliance at the APCA Annual Convention in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Through the Alliance, APCA developed a series of fact sheets for the pipeline construction industry. The following fact sheets were posted in March 2008 on the APCA Web site and linked to from the OSHA and APCA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site:

American Red Cross

The OSHA and American Red Cross Alliance helps to prepare employers and employees, including the American Red Cross employees, to respond to disasters, life-threatening injuries and emergencies. In addition, the organizations provide information, guidance, and access to training resources on safety and health topics, including emergency preparedness, disease prevention and first aid in the workplace. In particular, these efforts focus on individuals with limited-English proficiency and young employees.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the American Red Cross developed a presentation on OSHA regulations including, first aid, bloodborne pathogens and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which has been presented by OSHA State Plan State staff at number of events:

On April 17, 2007, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA and key construction industry stakeholders launched the national kick-off event for the OSHA 2007 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign: Build a Safe Work Foundation at the Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Silver Spring, Maryland. The focus of the 2007 campaign was avoiding construction hazards. The American Red Cross, along with a number of other Alliance Program participants, supported the campaign.

On May 27, 2005, Alan Traenkner, Director of Voluntary Programs and Outreach, Region IX San Francisco, California Area Office, USDOL-OSHA presented "OSHA's Alliance Program and the OSHA and American Red Cross Alliance" at the American Red Cross 2005 National Convention in San Francisco, California.
Through the Alliance, the American Red Cross shared its Spanish language tip sheets, including tornado, flood and flash flood, wildfire preparedness, and power outages with OSHA. They were posted on the American Red Cross Web site and in August 2007 linked to from the OSHA Compliance Assistance: Hispanic Employers and Workers Web page on the OSHA Web site.
Through the Alliance with the National Office, local American Red Cross chapters have signed Alliances with OSHA Area Offices including Region V, Peoria, Illinois Area Office and Region III, Allentown and Philadelphia Area Offices.

American Society of Safety Engineers

The OSHA and American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Alliance uses its collective expertise to help advance a culture of prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge, especially in the areas of ergonomics and reducing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and motor vehicle safety. In addition, the OSHA and ASSE Alliance addresses issues that impact non-English speakers and youth employees in the workplace and promotes the annual North American Occupational Safety and Health Week.

To meet the outreach and communications goals of the Alliance:

On June 24-27, 2007, ASSE's Professional Development Conference, Safety 2007, was held in Orlando, Florida. On June 25, 2007, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA made a keynote presentation about OSHA's initiatives and its balanced approach to achieving the Agency's goals. Lee Anne Jillings, Director, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA addressed issues focusing on the Agency's Hispanic outreach initiatives at ASSE's Safety and Professionals and the Latino Workforce (SPALW) Workgroup meeting. In addition, OSHA speakers presented six workshops, and Mr. Foulke participated in a roundtable discussion focusing on how to reach out to small businesses and other hard-to-reach employers and identify potential outreach materials. OSHA representatives also staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.

On April 6, 2004, former-Assistant Secretary John Henshaw, USDOL-OSHA updated the ASSE National Capital Chapter on the DOL Employment Standards Administration's Safety, Health and Return-to-Employment (SHARE) initiative and the importance of safety and health professional certifications at the ASSE National Capital Chapter Meeting in Arlington, Virginia.
In 2004, a representative from ASSE's Houston, Texas Chapter updated OSHA's Federal Network for Young Worker Safety and Health (FedNet) about the chapter's young worker outreach efforts.

Workgroup participants identified compliance assistance tools and products to educate the public, particularly small businesses, about the GHS. They also provided recommendations on the target audiences, subjects and formats of and methods for distributing the information.

On November 3, 2006, Sheila Arbury, Health Scientist, Office of Occupational Medicine, Directorate of Science, Technology and Medicine, USDOL-OSHA presented "OSHA and AOHP Alliance Update and OSHA's eTools and Safety and Health Topics Pages" at the AOHP Virginia Chapter Fall Conference in Fairfax, Virginia.

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses

The OSHA and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Alliance are providing AORN's members and others, including perioperative healthcare providers, with information, guidance and access to training resources to protect employees' health and safety. In particular, the Alliance addresses the areas of preventing percutaneous and ergonomic injuries and exposure to the smoke plume generated by the use of electrosurgery units (ESU) and lasers.

On June 6, 2007, AORN participated in the Department of Labor Safety Day in Washington D.C. AORN representatives staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth and provided safety and health information.
On May 7, 2007, former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Through the Alliance, AORN published articles about the OSHA and AORN Alliance and its products and the Agency's compliance assistance products and activities in its monthly publication, Management Connections.

Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association

Through the OSHA and Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association (CSDA) Alliance, the organizations are working together to provide the association's members and other sawing and drilling operators with information, guidance and access to training resources to help them protect employees' health and safety. OSHA and CSDA focus on addressing highway work zone hazards, motor vehicle safety and respiratory protection for hazards associated with silica.

On January 22-26, 2007, the World of Concrete 2007 was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. On January 24, 2007, Stew Burkhammer, Director, Office of Construction Services, Directorate of Construction, USDOL-OSHA presented a seminar, "Outreach Programs for Construction." Representatives from OSHA Region IX, Nevada OSHA and Nevada On-site Consultation Program also staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.

Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the Coordinating Committee for Automotive Repair (CCAR) provide CCAR affiliates and others in the automotive industry, including but not limited to youth and Spanish-speaking workers, with information, guidance and access to training resources that help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly by focusing on workplace vehicle safety, abrasive wheel machinery (including associated silica hazards) and ergonomics.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On February 3-6, 2007, Robert G. Stewart, President, CCAR, staffed a CCAR exhibit booth and distributed Alliance Program information, including the OSHA and CCAR Alliance Activities Summary, at the 2007 National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Through the Alliance, CCAR developed the "Operating Motor Vehicles: A Guide for Employees in the Motor Vehicle Industry." In December 2006, it was posted on the CCAR Web site and linked to from the OSHA Web site.
On June 19-23, 2006, CCAR representatives staffed a CCAR booth and distributed Alliance Program information at the 2006 SkillsUSA, an Alliance Program participant, national conference in Kansas City, Missouri.
On April 18-19, 2006, CCAR representatives staffed a CCAR booth and distributed Alliance Program information at the 2006 National Automobile Technology Competition (NATC) in New York City, New York.
On February 11-14, 2006, Robert Stewart, President, CCAR staffed a CCAR booth and distributed Alliance Program information at the 2006 National Automobile Dealers Association Convention and Exposition in Orlando, Florida.
On October 12, 2004, the 3rd Annual Collision Industry Trade Show was held in Northlake, Illinois. Jess McCluer, Program Analyst, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA and Seah Ochester, Safety & Pollution Prevention Officer, CCAR updated attendees on OSHA's Alliance Program, particularly the activities of the OSHA-CCAR Alliance. Representatives from both organizations staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.

To meet the goals of promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:

On February 15, 2005, CCAR participated in the Alliance Program's Hazard Communication Roundtable in Washington, DC. CCAR representatives also participate in the Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals Workgroup.

Crane, Hoist and Monorail Alliance

The OSHA and Crane, Hoist and Monorail Alliance, is comprised of the Crane Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA), the Hoist Manufacturers Institute (HMI) and the Monorail Manufacturers Association (MMA). Together, they work to provide crane, hoist and monorail systems owners and operators in general industry and construction with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. These employees include Spanish-speaking and other high-risk or vulnerable "hard-to-reach" employees. Specifically, the Alliance works to reduce and prevent exposure to safety and health issues such as electrical hazards, falls from elevations or being struck by moving equipment.

To meet the outreach and communication goals of the Alliance:

On May 5, 2008, Deputy Assistant Secretary Donald Shalhoub, USDOL-OSHA spoke to OSHA staff, Alliance Program participants and other safety and health professionals during the 2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week kick-off event at the U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc.

The OSHA and Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Alliance addresses reducing and preventing electrical contractors employees' exposure to falls, rear-end auto collisions and material-handling hazards by providing the IEC members and others with information and guidance and increasing their access to training resources.

On October 24-27, 2007, the 50th Annual IEC National Convention and Electric Expo was held in Houston, Texas. On October 25, 2007, James Shelton, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region VI, Houston North Area Office, USDOL-OSHA staffed the IEC Safety Zone Exhibit. On October 26, 2007, Danezza Quintero, Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, Office of Construction Services, Directorate of Construction, USDOL-OSHA presented "OSHA for Construction." In addition, eight representatives from OSHA Region VI North Houston, Texas Area Office participated in the IEC Basic Safety Training Class.

During the meeting, Alliance Program participants reviewed promotional materials and tools that OSHA designed in response to the recommendations made during the Roundtable meeting on September 8, 2006.
On September 27-30, 2006, the 49th Annual IEC National Convention and Electric Expo was held in Denver, Colorado. On September 28, 2006, representatives from OSHA Region VIII Denver, Colorado Area Office participated in the IEC Basic Safety Training Class. Erv Krueger, OSHA, Labor Liaison, Regional Office, Region VIII, USDOL-OSHA staffed the IEC and OSHA Alliance Program exhibit booth.
On September 8, 2006, IEC representatives participated in the Alliance Program's Small Business Roundtable in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Alliance Program participants provided a number of recommendations for OSHA on how to enhance its small business compliance assistance activities and resources.

On July 8, 2004, IEC participated in the Alliance Program's Construction Roundtable, in Washington, D.C. On September 11, 2003, the 46th Annual IEC National Convention and Electric Expo 2003 was held in Anaheim, California. Through the Alliance, OSHA and IEC developed the Subpart S-Electrical Standard Training Program, which was provided to more than 643 people throughout the country during several training sessions at IEC member and non-member companies.
Through the Alliance, IEC developed the fact sheet, "Electrical Standard Subpart S," which contains updates to 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S-Electrical Standard. It was posted on the IEC Web site and linked to from the IEC and OSHA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
Through the Alliance, IEC modified for the electrical contractor industry the Ladder Safety Toolbox Talks developed through the Alliance Program Construction Roundtable Fall Protection Workgroup. The Toolbox Talks were posted on the IEC Web site and linked to from the OSHA and IEC Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.

Industrial Truck Association

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the Industrial Truck Association (ITA) encourage employers to increase employer and employee access to safety and health information and training resources on the operation and use of powered industrial trucks and to assist employers and employees in reducing and preventing exposure to potential hazards associated with the use of powered industrial trucks in general and in warehouses in particular.

The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources

OSHA's Alliance with The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources (The Joint Commission/JCR) provides health care workers and others in the health care industry with information, guidance and access to training resources to help them protect employees' health and safety. The organizations work together to specifically address reducing and preventing exposure to biological and airborne hazards in health care, and addressing emergency preparedness, ergonomics and workplace violence issues.

Laser Institute of America

The OSHA and Laser Institute of America (LIA) Alliance provides the organization's members and others, including small businesses, with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to laser beam and non-beam hazards in industrial and medical workplaces.

To meet the training and education goals of the Alliance:

Through the Alliance, OSHA reviewed and provided comments on the LIA developed, "Laser Hazards" Podcast, which was posted on the LIA Web site in August 2006 and linked to from the OSHA and LIA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.
Through the Alliance, LIA developed the Laser Safety Information Bulletin, which was posted on the LIA Web site in September 2006 and linked to from the OSHA and LIA Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.

National Association of Home Builders

The OSHA and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Alliance provides members and others in the residential construction industry, including non-English and limited- English-speaking employees and trade contractors, with information, guidance and access to training resources to help them protect employees' health and safety. In particular, the Alliance focuses on addressing fall, electrical, struck-by, and caught in/between safety hazards.

On April 10, 2008, Rob Matuga, NAHB, joined with other Alliance Program participants and attended the Office of Partnership and Recognition's OSHA Challenge Webinar.
On April 21, 2008, former-Secretary Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Department of Labor and former-Assistant Secretary Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., USDOL-OSHA spoke at the kick-off event for the OSHA 2008 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign, "Build a Safe Work Foundation," at Rockefeller Plaza, New York City, New York. In addition, Alliance Program participants Fred Humphries, President and Chief Executive Officer, Home Builders Institute, National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) and Tim Lawrence, Executive Director, SkillsUSA addressed the attendees. Former-Secretary Chao launched the Campaign during an appearance on NBC's TODAY show. Teen workers from Alliance Program participant SkillsUSA demonstrated safe work practices for typical summer jobs for teens. NAHB and Independent Electrical Contractors, Inc., another Alliance Program participant, helped staff an OSHA exhibit booth. The Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign is a multi-year project dedicated to increasing awareness about workplace hazards and providing information about the hazards to young workers and their parents.

On November 5, 2004, Clyde Payne, Area Director, Region IV, Jackson, Mississippi Area Office, USDOL-OSHA; Rob Matuga, Director, Labor, Safety & Health Regulatory Affairs, NAHB; Benny J. Pritchett, Home Builders Association of Alabama; and Leon Greaser, Wichita Area Builders Association participated in a Construction Safety Breakout Session, "Construction Safety Resources You and Your Members Can Really Use" and updated attendees on the OSHA Alliance Program, in particular the OSHA and NAHB Alliance, at the NAHB State and Local Government Affairs Conference in Biloxi, Mississippi.
On August 24, 2004, George Middleton, then-Program Manager, Labor, Safety & Health Regulatory Affairs, NAHB, gave a presentation on the association's Hispanic outreach programs at a meeting of OSHA's Hispanic Subgroup in Denver, Colorado.
Through the Alliance, NAHB provided OSHA National, Regional and Area offices, State Plan States and On-site Consultation Program staff with copies of its handbooks on scaffolding, safety tool kits and jobsite safety.
Through the Alliance, NAHB publishes articles about the OSHA and NAHB Alliance and the Agency's compliance assistance products and activities in its weekly e-Newsletter, Nations Building News.
NAHB representatives helped develop and serve on the editorial board of the OSHA Assistance for the Residential Construction Industry Safety and Health Topics page on the OSHA Web site.

To meet the goals of promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:

On January 30, 2008, NAHB representatives participated in the second Alliance Program Construction Roundtable in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Alliance Program participants discussed products developed through the Roundtable and identified potential projects and compliance assistance resources to help address safety and health hazards in the construction industry. NAHB representatives are participating in the Roundtable's Fall Protection and Design for Safety Workgroups.
On October 26, 2006, NAHB representatives participated in the OSHA Alliance Program Hazard Communication Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) Workgroup in Washington, D.C. Workgroup participants identified compliance assistance tools and products to educate the public, particularly small businesses, about the GHS. They also provided recommendations on the target audiences, subjects and formats of and methods for distributing the information.
On July 8, 2004, NAHB representatives participated in the Alliance Program's Construction Roundtable in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, construction-related Alliance Program participants discussed working together to identify potential Alliance-related projects for the construction industry. NAHB representatives are participating in the Roundtable's Fall Protection and Design for Safety Workgroups.

National Safety Council

OSHA and the National Safety Council (NSC) work together to improve health and safety in the general and construction industries and to provide the nation's employers and workers, including small businesses and Hispanic and youth workers, with information, guidance and access to training resources. In particular, the Alliance focuses on helping to reduce traffic collisions and related worker deaths and injuries and provide first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training in the workplace.

On October 27, 2009, Jordan Barab, then-Acting Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, presented "Occupational Safety and Health Under the Obama Administration" at the 2009 NSC Congress and Expo held in Orlando, Florida. Stephen Butler, Director, Office of Maritime Enforcement, Directorate of Enforcement Programs, USDOL-OSHA, and Ian Bennitt, Manager, Government Affairs, Shipbuilders Council of America, an Alliance Program participant, presented "Maritime Industry Safety and Health Products and Information." In addition, OSHA representatives staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.
On October 19-25, 2009, the NSC Alliance and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported the 2009 Drug-Free Work Week. On September 21, 2005, Jonathan L. Snare, former Acting Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, presented a keynote address at the NSC XVII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work held in Orlando, Florida. Following his speech, Mr. Snare signed the OSHA and NSC Alliance renewal agreement. Robert Nester, Occupational Health Nurse, Office of Occupational Health Nursing, Directorate of Technical Support and Emergency Management, USDOL-OSHA, helped present a workshop, "Young Workers in the U.S.: The Injury Problem and Promising Prevention Strategies." OSHA representatives staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.
On September 13, 2004, John Henshaw, former Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, presented a keynote address at the NSC Congress and Expo held in New Orleans, Louisiana. OSHA speakers and Alliance Program participants presented more than five workshops and staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.
On September 9, 2003, John Henshaw, former Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, presented a keynote address at the NSC Congress and Expo held in Chicago, Illinois. Following his speech, Mr. Henshaw signed the OSHA and NSC Alliance agreement. OSHA speakers and Alliance Program participants presented more than 10 workshops and staffed an OSHA exhibit booth.
In 2003, NSC distributed to its members a packet of information on forklift safety prepared by OSHA, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division. The information packet included the OSHA Safety and Health Information Bulletin, "Protecting Young Workers: Prohibition Against Young Workers Operating Forklifts"; the NIOSH "Forklift Alert"; the Wage and Hour Division "Forklift Stop Sticker"; and a DOL Compliance Assistance Fact Sheet.

On October 20-26, 2008, The Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partners and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported the 2008 Drug-Free Work Week. Sponsored annually by the U.S. Department of Labor's Working Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace Program, the Week focuses on educating employers, employees, and the public about the importance of being drug-free as an essential component of a safe and healthful workplace.
On October 10, 2008, The Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partners participated in "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day," which was co-sponsored by the Department of Transportation's (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The goal of the day is to achieve one full day of zero traffic deaths on the Nation's roadways.

Through the Alliance Program Construction Roundtable's Fall Protection Workgroup, members of worked with other construction industry-related Alliances to develop the "Prevention of Fall Fatalities and Injuries in Construction" slide presentation, which was posted in October 2008 in English and February 2009 in Spanish on the Design for Safety Web site and linked to from the OSHA and The Roadway Work Zone Safety and Health Partner Alliance Web page on the OSHA Web site.

Scaffold & Access Industry Association

Through the Alliance, OSHA and the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) (formerly Scaffold Industry Association, Inc.) work together to provide SAIA's members, and others in the construction industry, with information, guidance, and access to training resources that focus on reducing safety and health hazards associated with the use of mast climbing scaffolding and aerial lift equipment. In particular, the Alliance addresses reducing and preventing exposure to fall and caught-in-between hazards.

To meet the training and education goals of the Alliance:

On April 27, 2010, Darin Hinnergardt, Master Training Instructor, Altec Industries, Inc. an Alliance Program participant; Daniel J. Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute

OSHA and the Sealant Waterproofing and Restoration Institute (SWR Institute) are committed to cooperative and proactive efforts to advance workplace safety and health especially by continuing to provide SWR Institute members and others in the sealant, waterproofing, and restoration industry, including small businesses, with information and guidance that will help them protect workers’ health and safety. Through the Alliance, the organizations address workplace issues such as confined spaces, falls, lead and silica hazards and staging requirements.

Society for Chemical Hazard Communication

The OSHA and Society for Chemical Hazard Communication (SCHC) Alliance focuses on working with small businesses and providing information and education to address issues associated with hazard communication and material safety data sheets (MSDSs) in the workplace. The Alliance also works to distribute information and increase awareness about the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

On November 16, 2004, Michele Sullivan, Chair, Board of Directors, SCHC, presented "GHS Panels" to The Chemical Producers and Distributors Association and Consumer Specialty Products Association Implications of the Globally Harmonized System for Pesticide Products in Alexandria, Virginia.
On November 15, 2004, Michele Sullivan, Chair, Board of Directors, SCHC, presented "GHS, ANSI Z400 MSDS Standard" at ISSA's HazCom 101 in New Orleans, Louisiana. ISSA is also an Alliance Program participant.
On October 22-26, 2004, the SCHC Fall 2004 Meeting was held in Arlington, Virginia. On October 22, 2004, Michelle Sullivan, Chair, Board of Directors, SCHC, presented "OSHA-SCHC Alliance." On October 26, 2004, Jennifer Silk, then Deputy Director, Directorate of Standards and Guidance, USDOL-OSHA; Maureen O'Donnell, Industrial Hygienist Team Leader, Directorate of Enforcement Programs, USDOL-OSHA; and David O'Connor, Summer Hire, Directorate of Standards and Guidance, USDOL-OSHA presented "OSHA's New Hazard Communication Initiative." Ms. Silk also presented "Emerging Issues: Control Banding - What Hazard Communication Professionals Need to Know" and "GHS - US Update on Implementation." OSHA representatives staffed an Alliance Program exhibit booth.
On September 14, 2004, Jennifer Silk, then Deputy Director, Directorate of Standards and Guidance, USDOL-OSHA and Michelle Sullivan, Chair, SCHC led a workshop panel, "Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for Chemicals" at the 2004 National Safety Council (NSC) Congress and Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana. NSC is also an Alliance Program participant.
On May 11-12, 2004, the AIHA, an Alliance Program participant, held the AIHce 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. On May 11, 2004, Jennifer Silk, then Deputy Director, Directorate of Standards and Guidance, USDOL-OSHA presented "The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals." On May 12, 2004, Jennifer Silk and Michele Sullivan, Chair, SCHC presented "Creation and Evolution of Material Safety Data Sheets: Cradle-to-Cradle -- Birth of the New GHS SDS Era!"
On April 28, 2004, Denese Deeds, President, SCHC, presented "GHS: Hazcom for the 21st Century" at the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) Health and Safety Conference in Southington, Connecticut.
On March 25, 2004, John Henshaw, former-Assistant Secretary of Labor USDOL-OSHA and Michele Sullivan, Chair, SCHC testified about the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and the value of material safety data sheets at the Senate Subcommittee on Employment, Safety and Training Hearing, "Hazard Communication in the Workplace," in Washington, D.C.
On March 23, 2004, John Miles, then Regional Administrator, Region VI USDOL-OSHA, presented "OSHA's Hispanic Initiatives/Multilingual HazCom Issues" and Robert Skoglund, President, SCHC, gave an update on the OSHA and SCHC Alliance at the SCHC Spring Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On November 1, 2003, Rober Skoglund, President, SCHC, presented "Implementing the GHS: Opportunities and Challenges" at the 2003 Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety IV, in Bangkok, Thailand.
SCHC representatives serve on the editorial board for the Hazard Communication Safety and Health Topics page on the OSHA Web site.

To meet the goals of promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:

On February 15, 2005, SCHC participated in the Alliance Program's Hazard Communication Roundtable in Washington, DC. During the meeting, Alliance Program participants discussed hazard communication compliance assistance projects and activities they could work on together. SCHC representatives also participate in the Roundtable's Promoting the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling of Chemicals Workgroup.
