The U.S. Commerce Department today announced that Matthew T. McGuire will be joining the agency as Assistant to the Secretary and Director of the Office of Business Liaison.  In this position, he will be leading the Department’s efforts to engage the business community on some of the Obama Administration’s top policy priorities, while continuing to strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Prior to joining Commerce, McGuire worked as a senior executive in the financial services industry for more than eight years. He was most recently at Citadel, LLC, a leading global financial institution with over $11 billion in its hedge funds and with offices in the U.S, Europe, and Asia.  McGuire has also directed job training and workforce development programs in the United States and the United Kingdom, and he worked as an investment officer at New York State's Common Retirement Fund. He has extensive experience with growing companies, investing in them, and preparing people to succeed in the job market - all key priorities for the Commerce Department as it continues to focus on job creation throughout the country.

McGuire has also been active with not-for profit and civic organizations throughout his career, working on a range of public policy issues. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Public/Private Ventures and has been a board member of Chicago Public Radio, the Golden Apple Foundation and PeacePlayers International. He has a Ph.D. from Harvard University, a B.A. from Brown University and he has studied at the University of London as well.
