2010 Conference on Program Evaluation


The State Department’s Third Annual Conference on Program Evaluation was held at the George Marshall Conference Center of the Harry S Truman building in Washington, DC on June 8-9, 2010. The theme for the 2010 conference was New Paradigms for Evaluating Diplomacy in the 21st Century.” The conference brought together evaluation practitioners, academics, and students from international affairs and national security agencies, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and academia. The conference represented a unique opportunity to gather with professional colleagues around a shared interest in exploring the role of evaluation in supporting successful diplomacy and development initiatives.

Focus Areas: Presentations addressed challenges and opportunities in evaluating complex U.S. Government foreign policy priorities and effective evaluation strategies in areas such as:

  • Evaluating Partnerships
  • Democracy and Governance
  • Cultural Diplomacy
  • Health
  • Counterterrorism
  • Science, Technology, and Trade
  • Methods and Programs
