Energy Data for Decision Makers

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is home to a wealth of data and tools that can be linked together to derive knowledge and expand decision-making capabilities. Our platform links energy communities and decision makers such as policymakers, researchers, technology investors, venture capitalists, and market professionals — with valuable energy data, information, analyses, tools, images, maps, and other resources.

Renewable Energy Data Book

The Renewable Energy Data Book for 2010 provides facts and figures on energy in general, renewable electricity in the United States, global renewable energy development, wind power, solar energy, geothermal power, biopower, hydropower, advanced water power, hydrogen, renewable fuels, and clean energy investments.

Clean Energy Data Book for States

The 2009 U.S. State Clean Energy Data Book provides a summary of the status of state-level energy efficiency and renewable energy (taken together as clean energy) developments and supporting policy implementation. It is intended as a reference book for those interested in the progress of the states and regions toward a clean energy economy. Although some national-scale data are given in the initial section, the data are mostly aggregated by states and region, and no data on federal- or utility-level policies are presented here.

Power Technologies Energy Data Book

This report, prepared by NREL's Strategic Energy Analysis Center, includes up-to-date information on power technologies, including complete technology profiles. The data book also contains charts on electricity restructuring, power technology forecasts, electricity supply, electricity capability, electricity generation, electricity demand, prices, economic indicators, environmental indicators, and conversion factors.

Technology & Market Data Reports

Market data are presented in individual reports for each technology area. Data include market penetration; industry trends; cost, price, and performance trends; policy and market drivers; as well as future outlook. Technology areas covered include geothermal, industrial, solar, vehicle, and wind technologies. Program areas covered include the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) and the Weatherization and Intergovernmental Program (WIP).

Open EI (Open Energy Information)

An open data platform developed by NREL—with DOE support—that catalyzes the world's energy information and links data together in new ways using "linked open data." Energy information and data will now be at your fingertips to use, edit, add, download, and build valuable new analyses, tools, and decisions. You can use and contribute to OpenEI today and to see how linked "open" data can transform the way information is connected to facilitate greater derived knowledge from analysis and presentation. 20% Wind by 2030

Wind power is capable of becoming a major contributor to America's electricity supply over the next three decades, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy. The groundbreaking report, 20% Wind Energy by 2030: Increasing Wind Energy's Contribution to U.S. Electricity Supply, looks closely at one scenario for reaching 20% wind energy by 2030 and contrasts it to a scenario of no new U.S. wind power capacity.
