Farm Bill Now Rally

I joined hundreds of farmers and ranchers and fellow members of Congress at a Capitol rally on Sept 12 to urge Republican House Leaders to bring the five-year farm bill to a vote. I simply can’t understand why these guys are choosing to play politics with the farm bill. The rally was a good start but we need the grassroots to step up their efforts and keep making phone calls and sending e-mails to their representatives and Congressional leaders. We need to make sure they’re feeling the pressure to get this bill done.

Peterson Honored as Guardian of Small Business

Congressman Collin C. Peterson was recently awarded the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Guardian of Small Business Award for the 112th Congress. This award is given to members of Congress based on their small business voting record. “Having started a small business myself I understand the difficulties small business owners face. In this economy especially I believe it is important to stand up for small businesses and their employees,” Peterson said.

Visit to Sunshine Dairy

Collin visited Sunshine Dairy in ARLINGTON on August 14. This family dairy partnership is operated by Ron and Pam Krueger and Scott and Stephanie Krueger. The Krueger family has received numerous awards from their milk-marketing cooperative, and in the past three years, they were twice named the top milk-producing herd in the county.

Paynesville Bypass Opening

For more than ten years, Collin worked on this project with the City of Paynesville and the greater region to improve Highway 23. On July 20, the Minnesota Department of Transportation opened the long awaited Paynesville Bypass ahead of schedule and on budget. This is a perfect example of public-private and local, state and federal partnerships; proof that we can work together and finish projects. This single project will not only reduce congestion within the city of Paynesville, but also provide a four-lane highway giving Willmar direct access to St. Cloud, which is vital for economic development in southwestern Minnesota.
