About Us
The Compact was formalized following the 2009 Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit, when elected officials came together to discuss challenges and strategies for responding to the impacts of climate change. The Compact outlines an ongoing collaborative effort among the Compact Counties to foster sustainability and climate resilience at a regional scale.

This paper presents a roadmap of eight priority federal policy opportunities that build on the recommendations from the 2015 Rising Tides Summit, a first-of-its-kind bipartisan gathering of nearly 40 U.S. mayors and local elected officials from 18 of the 23 coastal U.S. states. It identifies key opportunities for the federal government to assist local communities with climate resilience efforts.

Announcing over $80 million in New Federal Investment and a Doubling of Participating Communities in the White House Smart Cities Initiative
The White House Smart Cities Initiative announced an expansion to include over $80 million in new federal investments and the doubling of the number of participating cities and communities, exceeding 70 in total. Miami-Dade County and Broward County are partners of this Better Communities Alliance.
