Wagner College signs All-European

Another All-European has found a Stateside athletic home.

Former Kaiserslautern All-Europe tackle Andrew Holgate, a 6-4, 300-pounder who spent his senior year playing for Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Va., has signed a letter of intent to play for Wagner College, Staten Island, N.Y., his mother Marion reports. Wagner competes in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-AA.

Sunday morning ice time

The Army's Baden Bruins and the Air Force's Kaiserslautern Milkitary Community Eagles have claimed a supporting role for this year's World Ice Hockey Championship, scheduled to be held in Germany from May 7-23.

Baden and KMC will tangle in an exhibitiion game at 11 a.m. Sunday at the SAP Nebenhalle in Mannheim to help train off-ice officials to work the international tournament.

The World Championship,to be contested by 16 nations, opens in Gelsenkirchen, with a sellout crowd of 75,976 expected for the match between the U.S.A. and Germany at the stadium where Schalke 04 usually plays soccer. The rest of the tournament is scheduled to be played at the SAP Arena, just off Autobahn 6 in Mannheim, and in Cologne.

There is no charge for Sunday's exhibition game.
