Welcome This site has been established to convey information regarding the ongoing development of the NVLAP Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Laboratory Accreditation Program (LAP). On this site you will find important program development information. It is expected that in the future this site will include links to documents required for successful participation in the program. Program Description In response to the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services along with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology requested establishment of the Healthcare Information Technology Testing Laboratory Accreditation Program by NVLAP to accredit laboratories that perform functional and conformance testing of electronic health record (EHR) technology products to meaningful use requirements as defined in the nationally recognized EHR products testing standards. This program is currently in the development phase. The following tentative timeline has been established:
To apply on-line, go to: NVLAP Interactive Web Site (NIWS) To apply via mail, go to: Proficiency Testing Requirements Requirements are currently under development. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Q: When will the program specific handbook be available? A: The program-specific handbook for the HIT LAP, NIST Handbook 150-31, has been published and is currently available on the NVLAP handbooks webpage, as well as the HIT LAP program-specific webpage. Q: When will the application process open? A: NVLAP is currently planning to have all the necessary program pieces in place to begin accepting applications as of January 1, 2012. Q: Once the application process is opened, when will applicants be initially assessed? A: Those applying in the initial application window between January 1 and January 15, 2012 with a complete application are expected to be assessed in the 1st quarter of 2012. All assessments will follow the normal NVLAP process and will be scheduled based on the availability of the applicant laboratory and its personnel as well as the availability of the NVLAP assessors. Q: What is deemed a complete application? A: A complete application is comprised of the completed application itself along with any necessary supporting information which would include, but not be limited to: the quality manual and related management system documentation, organizational chart(s), laboratory description, copy of the latest internal audit record, a copy of the latest management review record, and the appropriate fees. Q: How long will the on-site assessment of my laboratory take? A: This is dependant upon the scope of accreditation selected by the laboratory.
