Why is it that only males have XY chromosomes? E.F      David Bodine, M.D., Ph.D.: I investigate the genetics of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (PHSCs) to improve the effectiveness of bone marrow transplantation and to find better ways to use these unique cells for gene replacement therapy. Because the genes that make males are located on the Y chromosome. Anyone with a Y chromosome will be male, no Y chromosome is female. East Haven High School in CT (10th grade student)
