Geeta Pasi was nominated by President Obama to be the next ambassdor to Djibouti on April 6, 2011 and confirmed June 30, 2011 by the Senate.

Geeta Pasi graduated from Duke University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1984.  She completed a master’s degree in French studies at New York University in 1986.  Before joining the Foreign Service in 1988, she worked as an institutional financial market researcher in New York.

Immediately prior to her appointment to serve as Ambassador to Djibouti, she was Director of East African Affairs in the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State.  She also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  Her other foreign assignments include Germany, India, Ghana, Romania, and Cameroon.  In addition to overseas assignments, she served in various positions within the Department of State in Washington, DC, including as a member of the Secretary of State’s advance team and was responsible for managing the Secretary’s overseas travel.  She also served as desk officer for Afghanistan at the Department of State from 2001-2003. 

Ms. Pasi hails from New York state.  Her foreign languages include French, Hindi, Romanian, and German.
