As I shared with regular readers of this blog in a post back in May entitled “Updated Life Cycle Logistics Career Field DAWIA Certification Training Requirements”, a number of changes to the Life Cycle Logistics defense acquisition workforce career field certification requirements will take effect on October 1, 2011, including the deployment of a terrific new 4.5 day Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level III certification classroom course entitled LOG 340 “Life Cycle Product Support.”
After nine years, and almost 12,000 course graduates, our well-regarded and highly successful LOG 236 “Performance Based Logistics, Part B” Level II certification course is being retired at the end of this month. In its place is a new LOG 340 “Life Cycle Product Support" Level III certification course.
The new LOG 340 Life Cycle Product Support course is designed to help prepare DoD Life Cycle Logisticians to perform in a senior-level life cycle logistics role over the life cycle of a system as a product support manager (PSM) with emphasis on developing and implementing a life cycle product support strategy. Students will apply tools and techniques from the 12-Step DoD Product Support Strategy Process Model outlined in the DoD PSM Guidebook to analyze, evaluate, and select alternative product support strategies. The course challenges students to think critically in instructor-facilitated group exercises to justify and make sound recommendations in coming up with the best mix of product support providers that will satisfy the Warfighter’s outcome-based requirements.
As I previously shared with you, for DAWIA certification purposes, for a period of one year, LOG 236 will be identified as a “predecessor course” for LOG 340, meaning students seeking Level III Life Cycle Logistics career field certification during FY12 (1 Oct 11 through 30 Sep 12) can apply EITHER LOG 236 or LOG 340 toward meeting their LOG 340 Level III certification requirement. Also, for the first year after LOG 340 deployment (1 Oct 11 through 30 Sep 12), EITHER LOG 236 or LOG 340 will be acceptable prerequisites for LOG 350 (along with ACQ 201B and any others specified in the DAU iCatalog).
Among the benefits of this transition strategy is the fact that we have openings available for a range of LOG 340 classroom offerings during the first quarter of FY12 at such locations as Huntsville AL, Kettering OH, Sterling Heights MI, Warner-Robins GA, Ft Belvoir VA, Rock Island IL, California MD, San Diego CA, Chester VA, and Port Hueneme CA. If you need this course to obtain your Level III certification, if you are interested in learning more about life cycle product support, or even if you have already completed LOG 236 and merely are interested in increasing your knowledge of this vitally important topic, I would highly encourage you to consider taking advantage of this opportunity and registering for one of these initial LOG 340 offerings.
