PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 13, 2009 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDSCuba) announced today that Ms. Nadine Sapiente has been
named principal of West Point Elementary School, at West Point Academy, in the New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District.

Sapiente, who is a native New Yorker, began her education career as a teacher at Willowbrook State School in New York. Since then she has taught at all levels, from early childhood students to adult university classes. She joined DoDEA in 1982 when she accepted a position as the preschool special education teacher in SHAPE, Belgium. Her experience as an administrator began in 2003 when she was selected as the assistant
principal of Naples Elementary School, in Naples, Italy. In 2005, she became the Sigonella Elementary School principal, in Sicily, Italy.

“Ms. Nadine Sapiente is an excellent addition to the West Point Schools leadership team,” said Mr. Michael Gould, New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District Superintendent. “She conveys a sincere interest in making every student successful. Her wealth of experience in instructional leadership will be a tremendous asset in serving the West Point Elementary School students.”

Sapiente graduated from Richmond College with a double major in Psychology and Education. She earned her Master’s of Science Degree in Special Education from Wagner College in Staten Island. She received a second Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from the State University of New Paltz, N.Y., in 1988.
