We make the measurements that help product designers and manufacturers—and consumers—realize the full promise of new materials. While we work on all length and time scales, we have particular expertise in methods that allow us to "see" at the micro- and nanoscales. In some cases, the materials we work with are so unique that our scientists are the first in the world to develop new ways of determining their composition, structure and properties. We provide reference materials, standards and scientific data to foster innovation and advance a wide range of technologies, such as those for public safety, forensics, homeland security and nanomanufacturing.
