    About
  1. Once again, we stop today to remember all of those affected by the tragedy on 9/11. As a nation, we continue to honor those who were lost that day and to strive to do better for our country in their memory. To all of those who lost a loved one, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
  2. Today, on the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, my thoughts and prayers are with the hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast who are currently experiencing the effects of Hurricane Isaac. May you be safe, and know that as a country, we will always remember our commitment to helping every community prepare for – and recover from – the disasters that befall us.
  3. In 1971, Congress designated Aug. 24th as Women’s Equality Day. I am proud to recognize this anniversary, and equally proud that I have been able to serve in Congress and support the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Violence Against Women Act. I hope as we recognize this day, we will move forward towards total equality for women.
  4. I have openings in each of my district offices for congressional interns. I encourage students who have an interest in civics to apply. You may even be able to get academic credit for working in my office. Click here for more information.
