NEH at the White House

Charles & Ray Eames: The Architect and the Painter

July 20, 2012

A special film screening and panel discussion of the NEH-funded documentary Charles & Ray Eames: The Architect and the Painter at the White House, hosted by the National Endowment for the Humanities in coordination with the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS)'s Grass Roots Leadership Conference.

Charles & Ray Eames: The Architect and the Painter presents the story of the husband-wife powerhouse who, from 1941 to 1978, brought unique talents to their partnership. He was an architect by training; she was a painter and sculptor. Together their work helped shape the second half of the 20th century and remains culturally vital today.

Following the screening, the University of Maryland Watershed team, winners of the Department of Energy's 2011 Solar Decathlon, will discuss the design of their house. Charles & Ray Eames: The Architect and the Painter director Jason Cohn will moderate a discussion featuring architect Michelle Kaufmann and Watershed team leaders Leah Davies and Allison Wilson. A barbecue will follow at AIA headquarters.

The post-screening discussion will be webcast live at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/live
