Partnerships

In this complex, globalized, post 9/11-world, our operational partnerships have never been more important to our efforts to protect your communities.

Today, we work with colleagues at every level of government—local, state, federal, even international—across the law enforcement, intelligence, and first responder communities. We lead and take part in multi-agency task forces, intelligence groups and fusion centers, and public and private sector alliances. A number of our partners literally sit shoulder-to-shoulder with us in FBI space, just as we share our agents and analysts with other agencies. We work closely on joint investigations—sometimes taking the lead, sometimes taking a back seat to others, sometimes contributing equally among many agencies. Our work with our colleagues, in fact, is so intertwined today that it’s often nearly impossible to separate the contributions of one agency—and one nation—from the next.

In Denver, our major partnerships include:

• The Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) brings together representatives of 22 local, state, and federal agencies to run down any and all terrorism leads, develop and investigate cases, provide support for special events, and proactively identify threats that may impact the area and the nation. We also have an ad hoc JTTF in Wyoming with 26 members representing 23 local, state, and federal agencies and one private industry partner.
• The Denver Field Intelligence Group is a team of FBI agents and analysts who provide a full range of intelligence support on terrorism and criminal threats. It combines with the multi-agency Colorado Intelligence Assessment Center (CIAC), which supports law enforcement and intelligence partners throughout Colorado.
• We participate in the FBI Counterintelligence Strategic Partnerships Program, which builds relationships between private industry, academia, government agencies, the FBI, and its counterintelligence community partners to identify and protect projects of great importance to the U.S. government.

• To battle cyber crime, we have a number of key partnerships:

• The Innocent Images National Initiative, a component of FBI's Cyber Crimes Program, is an intelligence-driven, proactive, multi-agency investigative operation that combats the proliferation of online child pornography and sexual exploitation. The Denver Division participates in this initiative, working with members of the Aurora, Denver, and Englewood Police Departments and coordinating with state, local, and international governments and FBI field offices and legal attachés as needed.
• The Denver InfraGard chapter is the local arm of a national information-sharing alliance between private industry, academia, and government. InfraGard focuses on protecting critical national infrastructures in both the online and offline worlds. For more information, go to the Denver InfraGard website or the national InfraGard site.
• The Rocky Mountain Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL) is part of a national network of FBI-sponsored, full-service digital forensics laboratories and training centers staffed by federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. • We also lead or take part in several major partnerships targeting violent crime:

• Our Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force pools the expertise and resources of our special agents and investigators from the Federal Protective Service; the Aurora, Denver, and Lakewood Police Departments; the Colorado State Patrol; and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The task force targets bank robbers, fugitives, and other violent offenders. It maintains and equips an effective, efficient cadre of experienced criminal investigators, has access to sophisticated investigative techniques, and can respond on a 24/7 basis.
• Within the Denver metropolitan area, violent gangs are investigated through the FBI's partnership with the Metro Gang Task Force, which is supported by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. The task force brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement to identify, target, and address organized gang-related groups involved in drug trafficking and/or violence.
• The Southern Colorado Violent Gang Safe Streets Task Force was launched in the Colorado Springs Resident Agency in 2006. It includes representatives of the Colorado Springs Police Department, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the State of Colorado Department of Corrections, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The task force works to jointly identify, disrupt and dismantle existing and emerging violent criminal enterprises operating in the Colorado Springs and Pueblo metropolitan areas and in Southern Colorado, including prison gangs operating in Southern Colorado’s penal institutions.
• The RAGE Task Force (Northern Colorado Regional Anti-Gang Enforcement Task Force) is a joint law enforcement effort of federal, state, and local agencies operating in Northern Colorado led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI in partnership with the Greeley Police Department. The RAGE Task Force works cooperatively with all law enforcement agencies and existing crime reduction programs with the common goal of reducing criminal gang activity and violent crimes in Northern Colorado. This initiative is supported by the Colorado U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, which actively support the cases presented by RAGE.
