Former USAID Mission Director to USAID Vietnam Francis Donovan explains plans for a new USAID-supported project for dioxin remediation at Danang Airport, a former U.S. airbase where the herbicide Agent Orange was st...ored. The project, which was launched on August 9, 2012, in coordination with Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense, will treat dioxin-contaminated soil and sediment through thermal desorption technology, making it safe by Vietnamese and U.S. standards. Dioxin remediation activities have received broad congressional support in Washington, particularly from Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont.
