Statement from Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick on September Unemployment Report

Oct 5, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs

LANGHORNE, PA - Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) released the following statement on the Department of Labor’s announcement that only 114,000 jobs were created in September, and the unemployment rate shifted down to 7.8%:

"While the top line of today's unemployment report contains some encouraging signs for the economy, a closer look demonstrates a recovery which remains anemic and a manufacturing sector under pressure from failed federal policies.

Only 114,000 Americans found jobs in September, leaving unemployment below 8% just one time in the last 44 months, and the 'U6' rate, which includes those who have given up looking for work, remained unchanged at a staggering 14.7.%.

Last week, the Commerce Department revised the growth of our economy down in the 2nd quarter, an additional sign of a still weakened economy.

Finally, the rebound in manufacturing that will drive our economy has remained out of reach, with 16,000 manufacturing jobs being lost in September."

Citing his Made in America manufacturing plan, Congressman Fitzpatrick continued, "I will continue to fight for my plan which lays out the steps manufacturers, small businesses, and I, believe will rebuild American manufacturing and set the course for a true economic recovery."
