Statement from Congressman Fitzpatrick on Attack on U.S. Border Patrol Agents

Oct 3, 2012 Issues: Defense and National Security

LANGHORNE, Pa – Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08) released the following statement this morning on the attack on three United States Border Patrol Agents Tuesday morning:

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Agent Nicolas Ivie, killed in the line of duty, and the family of his wounded partner.

These agents were posted at the 'Brian A. Terry' Border Patrol Station, named for their fallen comrade, himself killed while on patrol in December 2010 not far from where Tuesday's shooting took place.  This tragic coincidence serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by the men and women of our Border Patrol each and every day."

Tuesday's shooting occurred in an area known as a major drug-smuggling route.  According to reports, as temperatures along the border continue to fall, smuggling activity increases, posing a greater threat to U.S. Border Patrol agents.
