Real Property Disposal

Federal agencies can count on GSA to support their real property disposal needs. As a central broker, GSA is a one-stop agency for real property disposal, and promotes the effective disposal of federal agency's excess real property assets (including vacant space, buildings, land, lighthouses, warehouses, and air rights).

Surplus properties are made available for various public purposes, including negotiated sale to state and local governments and eligible nonprofit institutions. Those looking for auctions and online sales should browse GSA real property for sale or all federal government real property for sale.

The Greater Southwest Region provides the full range of disposal options to agencies within Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

The process for federal agencies to declare and dispose of federal real estate is mandated by federal law. Agencies with questions relating to real estate disposal should contact the Greater Southwest Region Real Property Disposal Division. GSA also provides assistance and advice on complex disposal issues to Congress, federal agencies, the military, state and local governments, and the private sector. The majority of this work is performed on a reimbursable basis.
