DAU Community Engagement

Community engagement is the idea that an organization has a responsibility to make a difference in the community.  DAU embraces this idea positively and contributes to the community though partnerships and volunteer opportunities.  Some examples are:
BodyFilterEdit
Walk to Defeat ALS: DAU’s West region participated in ALS Association’s signature event, “Walk to Defeat ALS.” The DAU team raised funds and increased awareness for the community-based patient program that supports family living with the disease.

Blood Drive: DAU Midwest Region hosted a blood drive sponsored by Wright-Patterson Blood Donor Center.  Donations from the drive were used to provide blood products to the local military community.

Easter Egg Hunt to Support Exceptional Family Member Program: DAU Capital and Northeast Region hosted the Easter egg hunt for the Fort Belvoir Exceptional Family Member program.  The event allows local children the chance to decorate eggs, have their faces painted and gives them a chance to “meet” the Easter bunny.

Charity Golf Tournament: DAU Mid-Atlantic region hosted the Navy/Marine Corps golf outing at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River golf outing.  The event resulted in donations of $3,000 to various funds and charities.

Principal for a Day: DAU Mid-Atlantic region took part in the “Principal for a Day” program.  As part of expanding community outreach, DAU faculty were allowed to see for themselves the realities facing schools, with the intent to build relationships, and encourage knowledge sharing between businesses and local public education institutions.

Breast Cancer Walk/Run: DAU South region participated in the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run and Survivors’ walk sponsored by the Huntsville Hospital foundation and Huntsville Track club.  The proceeds supported the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer fund and the Huntsville Hospital.

Bryant Adult Alternative High School: DAU supports Bryant Adult Alternative High School as part of the Partners in Education program.  Through this program, DAU faculty and staff:
• Participate in Bryant’s career day
• Sponsor a job shadow each year
• Place Bryant students into the Cooperative Education program as part time employees at DAU.
