"Iraq: A Huge Opportunity for Jordanian Businesses" Presentation

12 September, 2012
Location: Marriott Hotel, Amman

AmCham Jordan and event sponsor Capital Bank were pleased to host a presentation on doing business in Iraq by H.E. Mr. Bassem Khalil Al-Salem, chairman of Capital Bank. Titled “Iraq: A Huge Opportunity for Jordanian Businesses,” H.E. Mr. Al-Salem led an informative seminar on the potential of the Iraqi market, followed by a Q&A session with attendees.

AmCham Jordan Chairman Mr. Mohammad Batianeh began the evening with a short highlight of AmCham’s efforts to help businesses expand into Iraq. H.E. Mr. Al-Salem opened his presentation by noting that recent growth trends, including increased private savings in Iraqi banks, indicate that Iraqis are expressing confidence in their market and suggest that the Iraqi economy is now suitable for investment from abroad. He also identified some of Iraq’s most profitable markets, primarily discussing construction and infrastructure contracting since the country’s increasing population and changing demographics now require the construction of new housing, schools, hospitals, and other institutions.

Participants’ questions led to an informative discussion on topics ranging from the security situation in Iraq to the services provided by Capital Bank. Chief Executive Officer Mr. Omar Munib Elyas Alwir, who had just returned from Basra, Iraq, assured the attendees that the city was secure and ready for investment. Capital Bank highlighted the simplicity of Jordanian businesses accessing the Iraqi market and described services including loan assistance, trading on behalf of clients in the Baghdad Stock Exchange, and internal and external wire transfer services.

The question and answer session was followed by a patio reception where participants could continue the discussion and network with their colleagues. Amcham Jordan and Capital Bank would like to thank all who attended, and we wish you luck in your future business endeavors in Iraq.

"Best Practices in Sales Management" Presentation by Samer Daher

AmCham in collaboration with Khleif & Co., an independent member firm of Moore Stephens International, hosted a presentation by Samer Daher of Miller Hiemen at the Marriott Hotel on July 10. The topic of the lunch presentation was best business practice in sales management, with the goal of increasing the efficiency of sales training, which in turn will increase success and profits.

At the core of Mr. Daher’s philosophy is the idea that training is useless unless it is systematically implemented and practiced in the workplace. While many companies send their employees to training seminars, the techniques and principles they learn are almost never put to use. In order to reap the benefits of training, companies need to focus on finding and promoting managers who will serve as coaches and mentors to their sales teams, and ensure that good business practices are implemented in the office. Rather than focusing on results and profit margins, managers should focus on positively and systematically changing the behavior and activities of their employees, which will in turn lead to success.

AmCham is looking forward to future collaborations and workshops with Miller Hiemen and Khleif & Co.

AmCham Luncheon with FAST

On July 18, AmCham was pleased to host a luncheon for the First and Second Tour Officers (FAST) from the U.S. Embassy in Jordan. These officers represent and serve at both the Department of State and USAID, and met with AmCham to facilitate dialogues and learn more about the organization.

As these officers are relatively new to the Jordanian landscape, AmCham Business Development Manager Mr. Jack Rabah presented the overarching relationship that AmCham Jordan holds within the country. He elaborated on its introductive platforms, starting with the fact that, as operating within one of the most stable countries in the Middle East, AmCham’s role in Jordan is of exceptional importance. AmCham serves as a member of the MENA Regional Council, maintains close contact with the Chamber headquarters in Washington D.C., serves many American businessmen who have relocated their businesses to Jordan, and most importantly fosters a transparent economic arena which serves to increase bilateral trade between American and Jordanian businesses and investors.

The two parties exchanged ideas of how they could offer services to one another, which will inherently acquire all the more benefits of doing commerce bilaterally here in Jordan, with set intentions to follow up and solidify these transactions. The meeting was a success for both parties, and AmCham Jordan looks forward to continuing its close relationship and collaboration with the U.S. Embassy.

Invites you to a presentation on

“Best Practices in Sales Management” - Sustaining Change

Moore Stephens - Jordan & POLC - Miller Hiemen

Presenter: Mr. Samer Daher

Findings from the recently released 2012 Miller Heiman Sales Best Practices Study indicated that top-performing sales organizations are prioritizing time spent coaching their sales teams, which is linked to improved performance of the company. A common response to a question regarding the greatest organizational risk for 2012 was: “The greatest risk I see to our business is a continued lack of quality coaching of sales staff by sales management.”  Front-line sales managers nearly always have the characteristics of a top-performing salesperson, but too often they lack the attributes of an effective sales manager. While many companies invest in training to transform the organization, quite often, the ROI is marginal. The presentation shares best practices of how to overcome the challenges faced in transforming the sales culture into one of effective sales performance.  It focuses on the role of sales managers as coaches who rely on facts, not anecdotes, and who coach their sales teams through consistently integrated frameworks and metrics. Success stories - both international and regional - will be shared.

Samer Daher is a sales leader with international experience and solid understanding of North American and European corporate cultures, with a deep appreciation of the working environments across the diverse economies and cultures of the Middle East.

Miller Heiman is the proven leader and innovator in sales execution with more than 30 years of helping businesses grow profitable sales by increasing their close rates, lowering the cost of sales and reducing the length of the sales cycle. Miller Heiman is a worldwide leader in sales performance with programs in 20 languages and corporate offices in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, as well as representation in the Middle East.
