March 10, 2012

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Jay Inslee announced his resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives:

“For more than a decade in the House, Congressman Jay Inslee has been a champion for the people of Washington, a public servant of the highest caliber, and a powerful voice for creating jobs, investing in clean energy, and developing the high-tech industries of tomorrow.

“Born and raised in Puget Sound, Congressman Inslee always stood strong for his constituents and his state, helping expand Washington’s high-tech economy, preserving the health of local seniors on Medicare, and putting people back to work in his district.  As a Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, he promoted a cleaner environment, reduced dependence on foreign oil, and increased reliance on renewable energy – all central to the effort to create jobs, protect our natural resources, and strengthen our economy, our middle class, and our security.

“As a prosecutor, a state legislator, and a Member of the House, Congressman Inslee has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues, and the trust of his constituents.  It has been an honor to serve with him, and we look forward to working together as he continues to serve the people of Washington.”
