Pelosi Statement on Congressman Jerry Costello

October 04, 2011

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after Congressman Jerry Costello announced he would not seek re-election in 2012:

“Congressman Jerry Costello is a strong voice for the families, workers, and businesses of southern Illinois, a powerful advocate for his constituents, and a committed public servant.

“From his earliest days as a law enforcement officer to his more than two decades in the House, Congressman Costello’s service has been defined by practical, pragmatic, results-oriented leadership.  In Congress, he has worked across the aisle to create jobs in the Midwest, improve our transportation network, and rebuild our infrastructure.  Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation as a Member who works hard for his district and knows how to get things done.

“After 23 years of service, Congressman Costello will be missed by the people of the 12th district and by his fellow Members of Congress.  We thank Congressman Costello for his service and wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors.”
