Pelosi Statement on Republicans’ Proposed Budget

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on Congressional Republicans’ proposed budget and spending cuts:

“Democrats will measure every effort by whether it creates jobs, strengthens the middle class, and reduces the deficit, but the Republican proposal will come at the expense of economic growth and American jobs.

“Economic growth is crucial for job creation and deficit reduction, and we cannot balance our budget without both.  We must put our fiscal house in order, beginning with an aggressive attack on waste, fraud, and abuse; but we must do so without jeopardizing targeted investments that are helping the private sector grow and hire new workers.

“Democrats will continue to focus on putting Americans back to work.  We urge Republicans to join us in working to create jobs now, and to responsibly address the deficit.”
