Pelosi Statement on President Obama’s Memorandum on Expansion of Benefits to Domestic Partners of Federal Employees

June 02, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on President Obama’s signing of a presidential memorandum regarding the expansion of benefits offered by the federal government to domestic partners of federal employees:

“President Obama’s announcement to expand benefits for domestic partners of federal employees is yet another step toward equality and will help the federal government recruit and retain the best talent possible for public service.

“Legislation by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin will erase additional barriers that remain for federal employees and their partners.  Right now, we are working to finalize the defense authorization bill, which will repeal the discriminatory ‘don’t ask, don’t tell policy.’  Congresswoman Baldwin’s bill will continue to move forward in the House and we look forward to its progress in the Senate.”
