Partner: U.S.Department of Agriculture and Department of Defense

Overview

Eglin Air Force Base, located in the Florida Panhandle is home to the endangered Okaloosa darter. In fact, the base comprises approximately 95 percent of the species total range. Sedimentation and habitat fragmentation presented challenges for this species recovery. This video, produced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture describes a unique and successful conservation project to meet the Okaloosa darter's recovery needs. Due to the success of projects such as this, the Okaloosa darter is being considered for reclassification from endangered to threatened status under the Endangered Species Act.
