ANNOTATION: An evaluation is presented of the Federal Bureau of Prisons' (BOP) efforts to cut the costs of health care services provided to its inmates. This report is comprised of these sections: executive summary; introduction; findings and recommendations for health care delivery and cost impact, BOP contract administration, and monitoring BOP health care providers; Statement on Compliance with Laws and Regulations; Statement on Internal Controls; and acronyms and abbreviations. "In general, we found that in comparison to other national health care cost indices, the BOP was successful at containing the growth of inmate health care costs" (p. xix).
