IOSHA Home

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) is dedicated to ensuring Hoosier workplace safety and health. To be successful, IOSHA will improve workplace safety and health for all Indiana workers by reducing hazards and exposures in the workplace environment that result in occupational injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. IOSHA works to change workplace culture to increase employer and worker awareness of, commitment to, and involvement in workplace safety and health while securing public confidence through excellence in the development and delivery of our programs and services.

IOSHA consists of two divisions that conduct inspections to ensure compliance with IOSHA standards. The Industrial Compliance Division is responsible for public and private sector safety and health in the commercial, agricultural, and industrial sector of the Indiana economy. This includes the recognition and evaluation of exposure to occupational health hazards such as atmospheric contaminants, chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards. The Construction Safety Division is responsible for safety in the construction industry in Indiana.

In addition to the IOSHA divisions charged with ensuring compliance with occupational safety and health regulations, IOSHA's Whistleblower Protection Unit works to maintain the integrity of the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Act (the Act) by protecting the rights that law gives to employees. Among these rights are the ability to file, without reprisal, safety and health complaints with a government agency or company management and the freedom to participate in an IOSHA inspection. The Whistleblower Protection Unit investigates claims of retaliation against employees for exercising these and other rights provided by the Act. To file an IOSHA Whistleblower complaint, please call 317-234-3946.

The Indiana Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) are also housed within IOSHA. VPP promotes effective worksite-based safety and health. In the VPP, management, labor, and IOSHA establish cooperative relationships at workplaces that have implemented a comprehensive safety and health management system. Approval into VPP is OSHA's official recognition of the outstanding efforts of employers and employees who have achieved exemplary occupational safety and health programs. A VPP Manager is responsible for the operation of the VPP in Indiana.
