Jobs

More Difficulty for First-time Job Seekers: As a result of the president’s failed economic policies, the number of first-time job seekers that are unemployed is now 1.4 million, up 180,000 from January.  The number of new workers who cannot find a job has been above 1 million for 34 months.

Spending

GAO Reports That Government Waste Costs Taxpayers “Tens of Billions”: Last month, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a new report showing “51 areas where programs may be able to achieve greater efficiencies or become more effective in providing government services.”  The report stated that “if actions are taken to address the issues raised herein, as well as those from our 2011 report, the government could potentially save tens of billions of dollars annually” by reducing duplication in government programs.

Medicare

Who should Control Health Care Decisions?:  Securing and strengthening Medicare is a priority of House Republicans.  The House Republicans’ “Path to Prosperity” FY2013 budget resolution explains “in health care, as in any other economic arrangement, control of money is power.  When it comes to controlling health care costs and saving the nation from bankruptcy, the question is:  Who gets the power?  One centralized federal government, or 50 million empowered seniors holding providers accountable in a true marketplace?  Patient power will always serve the needs of the people far better than bureaucrats managing the decline of a government-run system on the verge of bankruptcy.”
