    NASA Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility

    DC-8 flies over the DAOF NASA's DC-8 airborne science laboratory banks low over the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility adjacent to Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, Calif., The converted DC-8 jetliner is one of five specialized Earth- and space-science aircraft operated by NASA that are based at the facility, including the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, a Gulfstream III equipped with a sophisticated synthetic aperture radar and two high-altitude ER-2 Earth Resources aircraft.
