Must Know

* WAITING TIMES ARE FOR THE INITIAL WAITING LISTS

All newly arriving eligible personnel to Yokosuka will be placed on the initial waiting list and will be offered the first home available, high-rise or townhouse, based on their pay grade, bedroom entitlement and control date. Personnel with dogs must be aware that dogs are not allowed in high-rises but this does not exclude them from being offered a high-rise when they are on the initial waiting list. The first offer of housing is based on entitlement, NOT eligibility. Those who elect to turn down the first available house offered, may select a site and house preference. There are three housing sites for Yokosuka; Yokosuka proper, Ikego, approximately 20-30 minutes drive, and Negishi, approximately 45 minutes away. They all differ widely in age, construction, and layout. There are no basements, usable attics, garages or carports in family housing. Although government quarters are not luxurious, they provide comfortable living environment. There are only 13 homes at Yokosuka for two bedroom eligible families with dogs. Pet owners may wait longer for Military Family Housing at Yokosuka or can move right into a Negishi Housing Unit or remain in town their entire tour.

Off-base housing allowing pet(s) is limited. Japanese houses are small. Recommend you do not bring large bulky furniture. Initial move-in costs include 1st month's rent, security deposit, agent's fee** and landlords bonus**. (**Agent's fee and landlord's bonus is reimbursable through MIHA and future OHA payments. Civilians check with HRO.)

Loaner furniture is available not to exceed 90 days.

The Yokosuka Housing Services Center is located adjacent to the Navy Lodge. The Housing Referral brief is held at 0830 and the Military Family Housing brief is held at 1400 Monday through Friday. Regular office hours are Monday-Friday 0800 to 1630, except the first Wednesday of the month, 1100 to 1630. For additional On/Off-base housing information: yokosukahousing@fe.navy.mil.
