The Corporate Council on Africa will host the 2012 U.S.-Africa Agribusiness Investment Forum in Ethiopia to introduce the U.S.-Africa Business Center (USABC) and its role in facilitating U.S.-African trade and highlight other initiatives designed to boost agricultural growth, trade and investment.

The Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD II) will be organized in Punta del Este, Uruguay, October 29 to November 1. The GCARD II will focus on the ways to implement the tasks identified in the GCARD RoadMap with special attention to “Foresight and partnership for innovation and impact on small-holder livelihoods”.

The Global Hunger Index, published by the International Food Policy Research Institute in collaboration with Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe, is a comprehensive measure of hunger worldwide and by country and region. Although the proportion of hungry people around the world has declined since 1990, global hunger remains at a level characterized as “serious.” Global Hunger Index scores vary greatly across regions and countries.

USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and Acting Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet will present "Feed the Future: Food Security and Agriculture in Development" at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in the Memorial Union Great Hall, as part of Iowa State University's World Affairs Series.

It is scheduled at the Hotel Honduras Maya, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, October 17-19, 2012, and the IPM CRSP symposium will be held Friday, October 19, 2012 from 8:00am to 10:00am.

On Tuesday, October 9, the GSMA mAgri team is co-hosting a webinar with USAID's FACET project on Mobile Market Information Systems (MIS) for farmers in emerging markets. Over the past few years many services have been created that give farmers in emerging markets access to market information directly through their mobile phone. There are many success stories and evidence that farmers can benefit from accessing timely and relevant market information via their mobile.

Since 1994, the Food Security Analysis Unit at FAO has been developing and using a tool to improve the analysis and effective response in food security emergency contexts. This tool, the Integrated Food Security and Humanitarian Phase Classification (IPC), contributes significantly to on-going global efforts to standardize core elements of humanitarian analysis and response (e.g., the SMART, Benchmarking, Needs Analysis Framework, Humanitarian Tracking Service, and Sphere Project).

The 2012 Food Studies Conference is held in Urbana-Champaign, home of the land-grant University of Illinois and located in the United States’ agricultural heartland. The Conference will address a range of critically important issues and themes relating to the Food Studies community. Plenary speakers include some of the leading thinkers in these areas, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations.

The Nutrition Congress Africa 2012 is a joint scientific meeting of the 24th congress of the Nutrition Society of South Africa, the 12th congress of the Association for Dietetics in South Africa and the 5th African Nutrition Epidemiology Conference hosted jointly by the Nutrition Society of South Africa (NSSA), Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) and the African Nutrition Society (ANS). It will be focusing on "Transforming the Nutrition Landscape in Africa".
