Citing New Documents, Oversight Committee Queries President on Involvement in Controversial Energy Loan Program

“The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has obtained documents which raise questions about how your interactions with business leaders at political events affected decisions to give billions of taxpayer dollars in loan guarantees to green energy companies through the Department of Energy’s (“DOE”) 1705 Loan Guarantee Program,” wrote Issa, Jordan, and Gowdy to President Obama. “The failure of several companies that received loans under the program, including Solyndra’s August 2011 bankruptcy, led to the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds.” Continue reading

White House Pressed on Admission of Frequent Backdoor E-mails with ‘Longstanding Relationships’ (i.e. Lobbyists, Campaign Contributors, Former Employers, etc.)

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa today sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew requesting information about who at the White House is using personal e-mail accounts to conduct official business. Congressional Investigators Release First Part of Final Joint Report on Operation Fast and Furious

Issa: “ATF and the Arizona U.S. Attorney’s Office failed to consider and protect the safety of Americans, Mexicans, and fellow law enforcement personnel throughout Operation Fast and Furious. Testimony and a persistent reluctance to fully cooperate make clear that many officials at ATF and the Department of Justice would have preferred to quietly sweep this matter under the rug. Though they are among the most vocal objectors to oversight by Congress, this investigation has also shown that both agencies are among those most in need of additional scrutiny and attention from Congress.” Continue reading
