It really isn't so much that were selecting them, we're selecting each other. We're looking to provide the right fit the right program for the right personality.
The ROTC gives you that chance for your first two years to participate in the program and all of its activities without making any kind of a commitment. ROTC Cadets educated at a place like Johns Hopkins, a private university offer an important compliment to those trained at the military academies, they add perspective and diversity to the military leadership of tomorrow.
If they don't have the option to attend the academy they can enroll in ROTC and still become an Officer in the U.S. Army. Virginia Tech is one of six schools known as a senior military college. It's a little different than your average four year ROTC experience. Yet it's not the full immersion that West Point United States Military Academy is.
I can still get what I would get out of West Point the structured lifestyle and the guaranteed active duty when I get out, but I get to go to a civilian college at the same time, so its kind of the best of both worlds.
Military junior college is obviously a 2 year college that has probably four different purposes. The most significant purpose is the commissioning of second lieutenants. After their sophomore year in college with commission in the United States Army or National Guard.
I felt it would be a good transition between high school and then going to a four year college and then getting my four-year degree and then going on the Army. Leadership is an art as most of us know but it cannot occur just in the classroom one has to pass through the fire of experience.
