JOB SUMMARY:
This position offers an excellent opportunity to seek a greater leadership role and responsibility in public health. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is a public health regulatory Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). We protect public health by ensuring that the commercial supply of meat, poultry and egg products is safe, wholesome and correctly labeled and packaged.

Our mission is to protect the consumers by ensuring that the commercial supply of meat*, poultry, and egg products moving interstate in commerce or exported to other countries is safe, wholesome and correctly labeled and packaged. *The Food Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, also referred to as the 2008 Farm Bill, was signed into Law on June 18, 2008. The Farm Bill amends the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) to include Catfish as an amenable species under the Act.
FSIS operates under the Public Health Human Resources System (PHHRS), a Pay Banding and Pay for Performance Demonstration Project. For more information click PHHRS. The AP-0701-03 is equivalent to GS-9/11 and the AP-0701-04 is equivalent to the GS-12/13.
