Environmental Impact Statement

NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit Nos. 2 and 3 (NUREG-1437, Supplement 38) Final Report," was issued in December 2010. This supplement documents the NRC staff's review of the environmental issues at the Indian Point Nuclear Generating, Unit Nos. 2 and 3 regarding the Entergy application for license renewal of that facility. The supplement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 51.71. This supplemental environmental impact statement includes the Staff's analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (license renewal), the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action, and potential mitigative measures for reducing or avoiding adverse impacts. It also includes the Staff's preliminary recommendation regarding the proposed action.

On June 26, 2012, the staff issued NUREG 1437, Supplement 38, Volume 4 Draft Report for Comment. This supplement includes corrections to impingement and entrainment data presented in the final SEIS, revised conclusions regarding thermal impacts based on newly available thermal plume studies, and an update of the status of the NRC’s consultation under section 7 of the Endangered Species Act with the National Marine Fisheries Service regarding the shortnose sturgeon and Atlantic sturgeon.
