Division of Diabetes Treatment and Prevention - Leading the effort to treat and prevent diabetes in American Indians and Alaska Natives

Resources

Knowledge is powerful – to gain the most benefit, knowledge must be translated into practice. This section includes information and resources to help diabetes programs and health care providers sustain, improve and empower public health efforts that are evidence-based.

Diabetes Audit

The IHS Diabetes Care and Outcomes Audit is a process to assess care and health outcomes for American Indians and Alaska Natives with diagnosed diabetes. IHS, Tribal and Urban Indian health care facilities nationwide voluntarily participate in this process each year by performing a self-audit of medical records for their patients with diabetes.

Client Education Materials

Proven methods exist to ease the burden of diabetes and reduce risks for childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and diabetes complications in Native American and Alaska Native communities. The IHS Division of Diabetes spreads this powerful message by publishing magazines, teaching aids and self-care tools. Materials are available for patients, providers, diabetes educators and community leaders.

Fact Sheets

Recently updated by IHS Division of Diabetes, the Fact Sheets provide information and an overview for each diabetes-related subject.
