In July, Madison Strategies Group launched its operation of the
to help New York City veterans and their families connect to training, career advancement and employment opportunities.
This unique center is meant to maximize opportunities for unemployed and underemployed veterans across the five boroughs. The Robin Hood Foundation is providing financing for the dedicated center through a grant to the Mayor’s Fund for the City of New York. The grant also supports expanded operations that specifically target veterans throughout the City’s Workforce1 system. Together, these two efforts will reach an increasing number of veterans in New York City and help them assimilate into the civilian workforce, putting an additional 450 veterans back to work by the end of the first year.
Unique Support for Veterans
The Veterans Career Center, staffed by vets, offers customers access to a multitude of services to support them with their job search and employment. Customers can attend targeted career-readiness workshops, meet with staff members about job opportunities, or develop job search strategies in individualized sessions. The Center engages with employers who are committed to hiring vets because their experience, loyalty, and skills make them valuable employees, and because they recognize the service that veterans have given to their country. In addition to job placement services, veterans and their spouses receive access to career exploration methods, training and education opportunities, information about and support in accessing their benefits as military veterans, and supportive services such as healthcare, housing and legal assistance.
