Sr Technical Advisor

PURPOSE: Provide professional technical support for the Office of Emergency Response Crisis Response (CR) Program to aid in enhancing capabilities in the prevention and protection mission areas associated with the threat a radiological or nuclear incident. The focus of this support will be on collection and analysis of intelligence information related to the threat.

 

Day-to-day, this work will touch on a number of areas including: technical and program improvements to NNSA's Search Program, Radiological Triage, Render Safe, and Stabilization in support of the NNSA's capabilities. The incumbent will apply technical knowledge, skills and abilities in the area of intelligence assessment of the radiological/nuclear threat the U.S. faces to inform operational and program level decisions, build project plans, and manage technical initiatives at the direction of the CR Program Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master's or other graduate degree in Nuclear or Radiological Engineering and more than 10 years of job-related experience. Must possess senior-level job experience in the Intelligence Community with an in-depth understanding of the threat to National Security posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in order to advise the Crisis Response Program Director on Intelligence Matters; and comprehensive understanding of the workings of the supported agency and interagency counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, and consequence management communities and their associated programs. Must also have expertise in radiation detection and detector design; professional level skills in Gamma Spectroscopy in order to inform and, as needed, participate in Triage Program Management and operational responses; proven ability to evaluate technologies and their operational application; and demonstrated ability to brief and write at a senior executive level in the Federal government. Demonstrated ability to analyze intelligence data, developing conclusions and appropriate courses of action for senior leadership; demonstrated ability to design, test and evaluate radiation detection technologies in environments ranging from pristine to austere; and demonstrated ability to provide rapid, actionable advice and assistance to senior leadership based on limited, disparate information in response to a fast-breaking operation required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. DOE "Q" clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access preferred.
