Statement of Assistant Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi on health care reform

Washington — Assistant Secretary of Labor Phyllis C. Borzi today issued the following statement on the signing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act by President Barack Obama:

“When President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, this historic health care reform legislation gave more than 32 million Americans access to medical coverage at affordable costs. For the first time, the nation’s families and small businesses will be protected by a system that will enable them to get the medical care they need and deserve. Most importantly, it is care that cannot be denied because of a pre-existing condition or cancelled because a covered individual gets sick.”

“This Administration is committed to bringing about positive change that improves the lives of the American people. Health care reform is a big step forward in meeting that commitment.”

“While this law does not heal all the ills of the current health care system, it does set in motion reforms that will benefit generations of Americans.”
