ANNOTATION: This report provides guidance for one state legislature’s actions regarding the temporary housing of offenders. It offers other agencies ideas on how they can address this issue. Sections of this document are: Session Law 2008-107 (H2436); introduction; other state practices; feasibility of contracting with community-based facilities; establishment of a central facility; and conclusion. The state relies on the family as the primary source of offender housing. The second option is the development of housing for certain offenders. “To that end, the Department recommends providing housing assistance for offenders and contracting with existing facilities for short-term solutions” (p. 4).
