Mercedes-Benz is one of, if not the, oldest surviving automakers in the world. Founded in 1881, the first Mercedes automobile was created in 1886. The German company is now operated by Daimler-Benz and headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. In addition to producing automobiles, Mercedes-Benz also makes commercial trucks and buses in Europe.

Back in 2009, Daimler acquired over 9 percent of Tesla. A couple of months later, it sold 40 percent of that stake to Abu Dhabi-based Aabar Investments. The following year, Tesla listed on the stock exchange and Daimler's interest was reduced to 4 percent. But now the German industrial giant has announced it is selling that 4 percent and divesting from ...

When it comes to California zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) credits last year, Nissan was selling and Mercedes-Benz was buying. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) put out its ZEV-credits numbers for the year that ended September 30, which is why we now know that Nissan, maker of the battery-electric Leaf, transferred 663.6 ZEV credits out of its ...

Anyone that was afraid that Mercedes-Benz would follow the example of the Land Rover Range Rover and soften the looks of the iconic Geländewagen when it came time for a redesign need not worry. The iconic off-roader's brutalist design aesthetic will carry on, as it's essential to its character. "It has to continue as it looks today," Daimler AG boss ...

This is the most beautiful car currently offered by Mercedes-Benz. With apologies to the aggressive and undeniably attractive Mercedes-AMG GT, the brand-new successor to the supercar throne vacated by the dearly departed gullwinged SLS, the S-Class Coupe as seen in the images scattered through these pages is particularly evocative, with flowing lines ...

The folks at the Russian company Dartz take tuning Mercedes-Benz models to extremes most people would consider impossible. Two of their recent creations include an armored G63 AMG 6x6 in pink camouflage and another one with a portable smoking room. Now, it's giving the GL-Class some attention, and the result is a dream for those extremely paranoid about ...

A hot compress felt wonderful on my sore back. The methodical kneading of my shoulder blades loosened the knots that formed over several hours of driving. The Swedish-style pulses firing into my lumbar region released more tension. I wasn't getting a much-needed massage following a recent road trip. I was getting it during the road trip. I grew up ...

It's a common dream to just drop everything, load up the car and make a life on the open road traveling from place to place. The vast of majority of us just fantasize about it, but it's a reality for the German couple Gunther and Christine Holtorf. They are just finishing what might be the world's longest road trip covering around 560,000 miles in a ...

Start speculating folks. This is apparently a new Mercedes-Benz concept car, and judging by this gallery of spy photos, it's the most bizarre and unusual concept we've seen in quite a long time. Based on these images, we're going to hazard that this some sort of ultra-efficient fuel-sipper, in the same vein as the Volkswagen XL1 or perhaps even an EV. ...

The folks at Mercedes-Benz are hard at work on a new generation of the E-Class, following big updates to the S-Class and C-Class in recent years. After seeing latest model in development wearing mostly C-Class body panels, we're getting our first real look at the styling of the sedan during European testing. Unfortunately, it's very well camouflaged from ...

If you feel like spending the price of a house (most places) on a very fast and comfortable German luxury sedan, then you're in luck. The configurator for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is ready and waiting, and it's not cheap to buy this much opulence. The standard S550 4Matic Coupe rings up for $119,900 (* plus an additional $925 destination fee ...

Want to get your hands on an Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe? With the new C63 sedan already released, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the old model won't be around for much longer. But according to Car and Driver, the existing coupe will stick around for a little longer than we might have thought. Apparently because the new model has only thus far been ...

One of the biggest question marks hovering above the Formula One grid is over the future of two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. Four-time champ Sebastian Vettel is widely believed to be taking his seat at Ferrari next year, but the question everyone's been asking is where Alonso will land. And here we may have our biggest piece of the puzzle ...

This probably isn't the start Mercedes-Benz execs in Stuttgart were hoping for with the launch of the critically praised 2015 C-Class. The company is recalling 10,500 examples of the US-market sedan because the steering wheels squeak and won't turn, The Detroit News reports. Mercedes is blaming the problem on a production issue affecting the steering ...

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT is one of the company's biggest performance car product launches in a long time, as a less expensive but still sleek coupe to replace the fabulous SLS AMG. The 503-horsepower GT S doesn't hit the road in the US until the spring of 2015 and the 456-hp GT follows a year later. Despite still being months away from hitting showrooms, ...

The last Mercedes-Benz AMG model I drove was the CLS63 AMG. It had a 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V8, 550 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Oh, and it also had a standard stop-start system and an Eco mode, two features that are kind of silly on a sedan that will hit 60 miles per hour in under four seconds. Yet, the CLS63 AMG is far from the only ...

Rapping and bragging about cars goes back practically to the very beginning of the genre. After all, a lot of hip-hop is about presenting a tough swagger and having a cool ride is a huge part of that. The group The Mighty 190 certainly isn't the first to rap about rolling in a Mercedes-Benz, but it might be the only one to rhyme about cursing in a ...

The folks in the ad department for Mercedes-Benz in Europe were certainly being creative when they came up with the company's latest commercial. The bizarre spot is simultaneously an ode to that Patrick Swayze classic Dirty Dancing, a favorite of mom's everywhere, while also being weirdly sexual. Appropriately titled Dirty Driving, the commercial stars ...

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force is a function of horsepower and engine rpm, and it's also the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff It follows then, that as with ...

Typically when Mercedes-Benz releases a new model, we only expect it to be a matter of time before the AMG performance version follows. The thing is that with Benz's new sports car already wearing the AMG badge and boasting as much as 503 horsepower in S trim, what would the German automaker even call an even more extreme version of the new Mercedes-AMG ...

The new Mercedes-AMG GT is an absolute stunner with svelte styling and cutting-edge tech under its skin. However, as a two-seat coupe, it's just not practical for a large swath of people. The German company realizes that, of course, and for customers who want to combine high performance with the ability to carry four people, latest versions of ...
