Feds sue Nap Nanny infant-recliner maker

After the deaths of five infants using Nap Nanny infant recliners, the Consumer Product Safety Commission sued the products' manufacturer in an effort to prevent further tragedy. The recliner was originally recalled in 2010 after the first reported death in a Nap Nanny. On December 5th, the CPSC took the unusual step of filing an administrative complaint due to defects in the products' design, warnings, and instructions, alleging that the products "create a substantial risk of injury to the public."

Dream On Me recalls child bath seats due to drowning hazard

Dream On Me has recalled about 50,000 bath seats because they can tip over, posing a drowning risk to babies. The Consumer Product Safety Committee and Dream on Me have received five reports from consumers involving the bath seats.

CDC warns about bedbug pesticides

150,000 Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks recalled due to rust risk

Toyota is recalling its popular Tacoma pickup truck, sold in certain parts of the country. At issue is the carriers that hold the emergency spare tire underneath the truck may not be adequately protected from the chemical road de-icers used in several states. If the tire carrier rusts, the spare tire may fall off the truck and present a road hazard, increasing the risk of collisions.

CPSC issues safety alert for single-use laundry pods

Safety concerns over single-use laundry detergents pods escalated again today with an official alert from the Consumer Products Safety Commission advising parents and caregivers to lock up these products and keep them away from children. In September, Consumers Union, the policy and advocacy division of Consumer Reports, wrote the CPSC urging its staff to investigate the matter and consider stricter regulations.

Hot cocoa makers recalled due to possible lead risk

Jeep Grand Cherokee, Liberty SUVs recalled due to air bag problems

Nearly 745,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty sport-utility vehicles are being recalled due to an issue with the cars' supplemental restraint systems. A component within the system could fail and cause a sudden, inadvertent deployment of safety systems such as the front air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side curtain air bag.
