Colonel Pedro G. AlmeidaChief of Staff Colonel Pedro G. Almeida is a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts and received his Regular Army commission in 1988 as a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Reserve Officer Training Corps program. His professional military education includes: U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, French qualification course at the Defense Language Institute, and the Aviation Officer Advanced and Basic Courses. He has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University. He also served as the senior Army fellow at Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy. Colonel Almeida’s past aviation assignments include duty as the Senior Aviation Trainer at the National Training Center, Commander of 1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Executive Officer and Operations Officer of 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Company Commander and Platoon Leader in 6th Squadron, 6th U.S. Cavalry in Illesheim, Germany. His past staff assignments include: Special Assistant to the Commander, U.S. Africa Command; Aide-de-Camp for the Chief of Staff, Army; Middle East War Plans Desk Officer, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Army Staff; and sub-Saharan Foreign Area Officer, American Embassy, Niamey, Niger. Colonel Almeida’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with numeral 2, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Action Badge, Master Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Army Staff Identification Badge
