Although America’s appetite for energy appears boundless, traditional supplies are not.  Promising alternative energy sources include biofuels, hydrogen fuels for automobiles, and photovoltaics.  MML research activities in the energy sector seek the technology and innovation necessary to make alternative energy systems viable.  Standards for next-generation fuels, based on previous approaches for traditional processes and feedstocks are needed.  Pushing the bounds to permit biofuels of consistent quality, metrology and technology for large-scale hydrogen use, molecular structures that form the key components in solar-to-fuel technologies, and information underpinning advanced energy systems are just a few examples of MML's drive to address the nation’s critical energy needs.
