TORII STATION, OKINAWA , JAPAN — March 7, 2008 — Dr. Nancy Bresell, Director for DoDDS- Pacific/DDESS-Guam is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Gayle Vaughn-Wiles as the new Superintendent for the Guam District, Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).

Vaughn-Wiles served as the Superintendent in the Okinawa District from 2002 -2008. Prior to that time she was the Assistant Superintendent from 1999 – 2002.

With her BA from Kansas Wesleyan University, an MED from Prairie View University and an MS from Johns Hopkins University, Vaughn-Wiles was well prepared to join DoDDS in 1976. She started her DoDDS career as an elementary teacher in Okinawa. In 1982, she transferred to Europe where she served as the compensatory education and reading coordinator, as well as EEO Officer for the Germany Region, before completing her PhD from Michigan State University. She then served as a principal and an assistant principal in elementary, middle, and high schools in Germany before coming to Okinawa as the Assistant Superintendent.
  
Dr. Bresell stated, “I have worked with Dr. Vaughn-Wiles for over twenty years as both a colleague and as her supervisor and hold her in the highest regard. She brings to the Guam District over three decades of education experience including six years as the superintendent of the DoDDS Okinawa District. Gayle remains sensitive to the needs of the students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders. She has a strong belief in the power of education to transform lives and ensure our students are ready to become leaders in the 21st century.”

Vaughn-Wiles replaces Michael Diekmann who is retiring after serving 26 years with DoDEA. Vaughn-Wiles will report in July 2008.
