PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 24, 2007 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mrs. Kathy Einhorn has been named principal of W.T. Sampson School, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. She replaces Frank Simone who has accepted a principal position with DoDDS-Europe.

Einhorn is currently an Instructional Systems Specialist at the DDESS Area Service Center in Peachtree City, with specific duties in the areas of assessment, school improvement, English/language arts and social studies. Prior to coming to the ASC in 2002, Einhorn was at the DDESS Georgia/Alabama District where she taught special education. She served as an assistant director of Special Education, director of Curriculum and as an acting assistant principal at Faith Middle School. She originally joined the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) when she traveled in 1986 to Bamberg, Germany, with her then Army Infantryman husband and two children.

“I cannot think of a better person to assist in the School Improvement process than Kathy Einhorn. Her expertise with the Community Strategic Plan and North Central Association set her apart from the rest,” said Dr. Bruce Jeter, New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico/DoDDS-Cuba School District Superintendent. “Kathy’s attention to making data-driven decisions and her focus on best instructional practices is the right mix for Cuba at this time. She will also work very well with Assistant Principal Jay Gilbo, the GTMO (Guantanamo Bay) command and community.”

Einhorn earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Psychology in 1983. She earned her master’s degree in learning disabilities and an Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Columbus State University. She is in the process of completing her Doctorate of Education in Instructional Leadership.

Einhorn and her husband, Jeff, have a son, a daughter, a son-in-law and a granddaughter.
