Ms. Sue Engelhardt was selected as the Director of Human Resources for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in May 2009. She leads a team that performs civilian human resources program and policy development and military personnel administration for a command of approximately 34,000.

Ms. Engelhardt has over 25 years of experience in the Human Resources profession with the federal government.  She started her career as a Personnel Management Specialist Intern with the Department of Navy, and worked as a Labor Relations Specialist for Navy, Army and Defense Logistics Agency. She also served as a Supervisory Employee Relations Specialist for Navy and the Equal Employment Manager at the Navy Public Works Center, Honolulu, HI.

In February 1996, Ms. Engelhardt joined the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as the Branch Chief for Workforce Relations.  In January 2001, she became the DISA Civilian Personnel Officer, with responsibility for servicing approximately 6,000 civilian employees worldwide in all areas of human resources, to include operations, policy development and oversight, and rightsizing.  In August 2004, she joined FAA as the Executive Director for Human Resource Management Programs and Policies.

Ms. Engelhardt has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. In 1990, she graduated from the Women’s Executive Leadership Program. In 1998, she was selected for the Defense Leadership and Management Program, which is a competitive, systematic program of “joint” civilian leadership training, education and development with the Department of Defense. Under that program, Ms. Engelhardt completed numerous graduate courses toward her Masters in Business Administration. Additionally, Ms. Engelhardt was competitively selected for the DISA Executive Leadership and Development Program. She has received numerous achievement and honorary awards throughout her federal career, including the Federal Aviation Administration Office of Human Resource Management’s Executive of the Year.
